Playing hard to get


It's a weekly habit.

I log on to the Diamond Giveaway site, and check out the latest offers for the Reggie Jackson diamond diecut. There's usually around 50 or 60, or sometimes more, each time I check.

I immediately dismiss about two-thirds of them and promptly press the "decline" button.

Then I toy with a few of the other offers -- fully knowing I'm going to decline those, too.

Like these, for example:


Well, first, this tells me the oldest card offered is from 1990. Secondly, I'd rather not get 16 cards shipped to me. It's going to cost way too much. So, those of you offering me 38 and 47 cards for Reggie, you can forget about that, too.


Diecuts of current players for Reggie? No way.


I said NO!


Well, at least I've heard of Whitey. I love all the no-name vintage guys that are thrown at me in hopes that I'll suddenly develop a crazed look on my face, start babbling "VINTAGE, VINTAGE, VINTAGE," and drool so vigorously onto the computer table that my hand will slip on the mouse and I'll carelessly click the "Accept" button.

I'd expect that behavior from my dog. But I am rational enough that I at least have to know who the person is to trade it for Reggie.


Now, no-name '56s? That's a little bit tempting. .... But, no.



No. Absolutely not. And may all your cards die in a fire.


All right. THIS is more in line of what I'm thinking. But the "Tom Seaver" name needs to say "Sandy Koufax." I can't get anyone to realize that.

So, I'm sorry. No.

But I think I'm going to press "ship" on Reggie in the morning.

(Unless someone wants to trade me the Koufax diecut. I can hold off a little longer).

I've tried to trade some of my stuff for Koufax too. No dice.

The people who hold a Koufax drive a hard bargain. After months of trying and incrementally improving my offers I finally got one a couple of weeks ago. My offer that was finally accepted: 13 cards - 9 vintage commons (1960-1970) and 4 active player die cuts.

You've pretty much covered all the insanity that is Topps-site trading. My one other rule is to ban people who propose the exact same ridiculous trade TWICE.

The Frank Howard is cool, no doubt, but I picked that and some other '61 and '62s from a $1 box so it can't be worth that much. Granted, I don't care about Reggie Jackson or anything, but you should hold out for better.

Too funny. I have a Reggie die cut too so I see the same offers. And even those are not a egregious as the offer I received that was a lone checklist. REALLY?!?!?!? A checklist? That's even more insulting than a 2008 common.

I gave up looking at my trade offers a while ago. I've got a couple Mets Diamond Die Cuts that I want to keep, a couple of vintage cards of guys I've actually heard of that I want to keep, and a bunch of junk nobody wants.

I'm just waiting for Topps Update to come out so I can get everything shipped at once.
