Getting off my ass

Up until the last day or so, trades had dried right up for me. I've had no time to strike up any deals, and with Listia and a card show and some online arranging going full force, cards were occupying my time in other ways. But the time has come for me to get off my ass and actually be a fully functioning member of the bloggery again. Now that I've scrounged up some money for mailing supplies, a few select people will be getting some cards next week. And then a few more after that. Before you know it, it will be 2009 again and we'll all be clawing our eyes out because of all the trade posts. One person who hasn't stopped sending out cards recently is Spiegel . I got a very cool assortment of cards from him a couple weeks ago and am just now getting finding time to discuss them. So let's see if I still know how this "show your latest cards" thing works. I think you turn it on ... Like this ... Is it working? Ah, here we go ... I shall st...

C.A.: 1984 Donruss Mike Marshall

(First day of summer. It's in the 80s. Sunny. And I'm still working. Explain. Time for Cardboard Appreciation. This is the 146th in a series): By the time this card arrived in '84, I was a certified fan. You aren't really a fan until you know misery. Disappointment. Heartbreak. Deflated expectations. Disgust. All of it. I was fortunate in that I selected a favorite team at the same time that team was going pretty good (by coincidence, I swear). By the time I had fully invested myself into this thing called "baseball," instead of simply collecting cards, my favorite team was making regular trips to the World Series. Back-to-back trips, in fact, in 1977 and 1978. But then I began to find out exactly what being a fan was all about. It wasn't merely rooting for your team, and seeing it do exactly what you wanted it to do -- win. It was about this: Crushing World Series losses (1977 and 1978) . Disappointing seasons full of unrealized expect...

The first Mother's Day trade post spectacular/extravaganza

I was wracking my brain earlier today trying to come up with a Mother's Day post. But then I realized something. First, there are three mothers who are a big part of my life. One lives in the house with me, the other is her mom, and the other is my mom. All three of them couldn't give a damn about baseball cards. Not only that, but they don't care about baseball or sports in general really. They certainly don't care about what's written here. Second, I wrote what I had to say about my mom and baseball last year . That sums it up. So, given that, I think I have the green light for: A GINORMOUS, SPECTACULAR TRADE POST EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!!!!!! And on we go!!!!!!! These first cards are from Jim of  GCRL . He always seems to be able to track down a Nebulous 9 need. This was the last 1986 Donruss Dodger that I needed to complete that wretched-looking set. The Nebulous 9 list is now eight cards. I'll get to work on getting back to nine. A pair of ...
