I'm not outgoing but the cards are incoming

All right, the previous post I showed you cards that came into the home for the holiday that didn't exactly fit my collection. That post went over like a palette of 1990 Donruss.   So here are some cards that have been arriving around the holiday that are much more style. Yes, that's right, "more incoming cards." You'll just have to suck it up. The other posts I'm working on aren't ready yet. There are more people in the house at this time of year, you know. I have to pay attention to them. I'm anti-social enough, how bad would it be if I just shut myself into my room with my laptop and cards?   These cards specifically came with holiday wishes from reader Dana, who traditionally sends cards around this time. He also sent the Mookie up top but I landed that card just before this envelope arrived. Appreciate the thought though. The most important card is the Campy, which completed the Dodgers team set for 2022 Gallery for me.   The next holiday envelo

Christmas jackpot

I feel sorry for early readers of Night Owl Cards. Back then, I'd get to Christmas and all I had to show for it as far as gifts was socks. And then they'd have to read me whine about socks . How about that for content? No wonder the views were so low. Over the years, the holiday gifts have gradually become more card-like. And the last couple of years the card-gifting has gone into hyperdrive. Last year I received an entire complete set from the year, a common Christmas gift for young collectors going back to leafing through the Sears Wish Book. But 2021 was the first time I ever experienced that. Now we're at 2022. Jackpot.   Between my wife and her sister, I landed three different blasters of current cards and what, I guess, is now a Christmas tradition of a complete set for the year! Note to self: do not open too many 2023 packs.   The key part of this is 2022 Topps is actually a set I like, unlike last year's.   Also, I specified what kind of 2022 cards I might lik

Free cards (for me, not you)

The card blogging world has taken another hit with even some of the blogging diehards of the last 10 years deciding they're too busy to generate regular content. That's an individual choice, obviously, although it forces me to read the vacant card thoughts of Twitter folks rather than the well-crafted and informative prose that has helped shape my card opinions for the last dozen-plus years.   Not even free cards are keeping those blogging tabs open for those folks. Too bad, more for me, I suppose.   I took advantage of another Time Travel Trade from Matt and this is what I received, simply for reading and unloading a few cards I don't need:   I have no intention of trying to complete the 1976 Topps football set. But it is the first set I saw in which I was aware that "there are football cards, just like there are baseball cards." The first football card I actually saw was the 1975 Topps Alan Page. But at the time I couldn't tell you anything about the card
