You probably only care about a couple of these cards

I finally received a sportlots order today. It's my second order of the year from the site and this time I went with the box shipment to save myself some money.   I was questioning myself for doing it while waiting because gosh does it take awhile. It was only a month, it turns out, but it certainly seemed longer. I know I've been through this before (and written about it) but the saving sometimes don't seem worth it during the wait.   I usually reserve sportlots orders for plugging a few team set needs or set needs in general, but not for super-vintage cards in most cases. Sportlots isn't great for knowing what the cards look like when you buy them (it seems to have cut back even more on the pictures in fact). So stuff like Kellogg's cards is out.   I don't know how much these arrivals will interest people but who cares? This blog thing is here for showing my cards, nobody else needs to like them but me.   Here we go, I mean, why all the 2021 Stadium Club Ch...

I'm getting Wednesdays back

For the last year-plus, my Wednesday workload has been what used to be the job of 4-5 people.   That meant that virtually my entire day was devoted to the job, even the so-called "off-hours" of the day. And many weeks work tasks bled into Tuesday, too. Writing a blog post on Wednesday was usually impossible.   However, finally, after wondering how long I would put up with this, yet another downsizing has meant that I'm getting my Wednesdays back. Beginning next week, Wednesday will be just like any other day of the work week.    I'm really happy about this, even though I have to get through this Wednesday first. As a bit of a pre-celebration with (checks clock) very little time, I'm squeezing in a short post. I received some cards yesterday from a stack sale over on Bluesky. After directing some of the cards to fellow collectors' stacks, I have eight cards left for my collection that I will count down.   Nothing exciting -- except to me, of course. Here t...

Free cards (for me, not you)

The card blogging world has taken another hit with even some of the blogging diehards of the last 10 years deciding they're too busy to generate regular content. That's an individual choice, obviously, although it forces me to read the vacant card thoughts of Twitter folks rather than the well-crafted and informative prose that has helped shape my card opinions for the last dozen-plus years.   Not even free cards are keeping those blogging tabs open for those folks. Too bad, more for me, I suppose.   I took advantage of another Time Travel Trade from Matt and this is what I received, simply for reading and unloading a few cards I don't need:   I have no intention of trying to complete the 1976 Topps football set. But it is the first set I saw in which I was aware that "there are football cards, just like there are baseball cards." The first football card I actually saw was the 1975 Topps Alan Page. But at the time I couldn't tell you anything about the card...

Card dealers do make house calls

Imagine you're at a card show and you've discovered a dime box. You're in the middle of pawing through row after row of discounted cardboard. Heaven, right? But life isn't perfect so there are some minor issues. Dudes keep bumping you. There are all those Bowman cards of  former prospects you don't know. And what's with the junk wax? 1987 Topps? 1990 Donruss? Come on, they're not even worth a dime. Who doesn't have those?   Now, imagine that you're at that same dime box, still leafing through and that's when the dealer says your name. You look up. And he's standing there in front of you with a stack of dime box cards, all from your favorite team, and he hands them to you. Now THAT'S heaven.   I don't have to sort through all the unwanteds? All that 2016 Topps? You've sifted through it for me?   Well that's what happened to me.   Virtually, anyway.   The BaseballCardStore.Ca , which we all know as the online dime box store, ...
