I am trying to get to a couple of other posts that I have been planning for a little bit. The ideas and cards have been rolling around in my brain for days, even verging on weeks now.
But they're not ready, either I need more information or certain items to arrive. They're still a bit raw ... and not in that gross way that collectors use to describe non-slabbed cards. But I figured each of them would be cooked by now.
Still, patience has been the word for at least three years now and I've gotten used to it. I have fall-back options, i.e., cards people sent me.
Here is a nice selection of 1990 Swell cards landed in a TCDB trade with nozzlemaster for just a handful of Dodgers. Nearly up to two-thirds of the set completed. I've been cleaning up on Clendenon acquisitions lately.
This is one half of the cards I requested in the latest Diamond Jesters Time Travel swap. The other didn't disappear, it's just targeted for another collector and I can't show all my cards (get it?).
There were other cards I wanted in the latest TT offering but, as usual, Bo beat me to them. Still, O-Pee-Chee!
These 1993 UD Then & Now inserts were part of handful of cards I ordered from @imoMitchCards. He always has nifty cheapy stuff like this. Since I'm running a 1993 Upper Deck blog (latest post is up over there), I figured I need to get a few more inserts from the set. I'm not planning to post about them there but it would make me feel more knowledgeable about the set.
The Then & Nows are probably the most interesting ones to me. They light up real nice but are predictably pretty blah under gray skies (but you don't need to see Reggie's dumb Upper Deck jersey). As usual with anything '90s insert, I had no idea there were so many of these. I walk into any insert set thinking there are 8-10 (but, of course, never 9 because we can't have things convenient). Obviously, I need to recalibrate because there are 18 of these (hey, that's divisible by 9, way to go Upper Deck!). I now have five.
That's the other stuff that showed up with the Then & Nows. I can't turn down a Drake's card and the rough cut adds charm. The Koufax Gallery thing is not charming. It looks like Koufax had his personality -- or maybe his soul -- removed here. This is the type of Dodger stuff I should no longer be collecting -- but I got this card before I decided that.
Finally, a few cards that I received from ZippyZappy the other day. I really appreciate the black refractor Buehler card. Dodgers fans are practically panicking Buehler back into pitching in a game before his rehab is done because the duct tape holding the pitching staff together has frayed and the secret is out: the Dodgers can hit, but chances are the opponent can hit more ... and more and more and more.
Orel has many great oddball cards. I have this one already but I'm am almost certain that this is in much better shape. That means I get to stand one up now! Wooo! I can't wait for the weekend.
Lastly, a Heritage short-print from the biggest Kyle Freeland fan I know! I really appreciate this and I especially appreciate Zippy's Freeland fandom because it probably means he had an extra to spare. I don't understand his interest in the Rockies right now (I hope it's not that they're going to have a dynasty in five years) but I welcome Heritage SPs coming out of it.
It's a bit fortunate that Freeland and his travel companions arrived intact because the envelope showed up as if it survived a tiger attack.
Saying please doesn't get you very far these days.
All right, that's it. I'll check the stove and see if those other posts are close to being done, but it might be next week before they are ready to serve.
Sorry about all the lame cooking references.

I don't even bother writing 'please do not bend' on envelopes anymore. It's only a matter of time before one of mine (either coming or going) gets chopped.
Can't wait to see what else you've got cooking in the blogoven.
Regarding the uptick in Rockies, rest assured that my interest is not because I think they'll ever be good. In fact it's the opposite, I'm strangely fascinated by a team that does everything wrong in an age where love-able losers no longer exist or are acceptable. And they'll continue to get everything wrong.
Don't pay attention to 99 percent of Twitter sales that show up on my feed, but imoMitch is one of the good ones. Always has a lot of affordable fun stuff.
