Play ball! (2019)

It's tradition around here to mark the start of the baseball season with an annual post.

This is the 10th anniversary of the first time I did this.

I've added to my collection since that point, but I'm starting to run out of cards for some of these teams.

A little insight into how I select the cards for this post: my only rule is to not use the same card. I've broken that rule just once, inadvertently (stupid Koji Uehara). But this time I researched all my previous Play Ball posts to make sure I didn't repeat any card.

It was a little more fun when I didn't have to back-check all the cards I've already used. It was also more fun when the Dodgers weren't losing the World Series every year, and the Cubs hadn't won since 1908 so I didn't have to see that blasted 2016 Topps design each time.

But that's all incidental. Because tomorrow is OPENING DAY!

Here we go:

The last time the RED SOX won the World Series, cards looked like this:

The last time the ASTROS won the World Series, cards looked like this:

All right, except for two teams who made their major league debuts long ago and far away, it's the first of 162 tomorrow!

Everyone else, you know what to do:

Except for the very first one (only because I read your blog), I couldn't tell you what year it was until the Blue Jays, which is also the last year I bought current cards. Thanks for the opening day post.

Cool. Always look forward to this post

Let's go Padres! But I'd settle for the A's ending their three decade World Series drought.

Love the 2019 design

Wow, besides the clubs that have never won it, the tigers are now the fourth longest drought with no end in sight now

The Indians card is so different from the rest. The nature of this post will really change if they finally win it all again.

Hoping the Reds will make some noise this year. Regardless, it'll still be fun to watch Yasiel Puig swat homers into the Ohio River.

Happy baseball everyone!

As an O's fan, I have no reason to be excited, yet I am. Play ball!

I still like the Dodgers chances.

I agree with the first part of Rob's comment. Maybe I'll watch more than three games all year.

Upper Deck X? Wow. :)

That's quite a gap between the Pirates and Indians!

That's pretty cool. Great job.

2/3rds of the Earth is covered by water. The other 1/3rd is covered by Lorenzo Cain.

Those hexagons and that blue work together really well in that photo above at least. I don't think I have any but I'll have to keep an eye out.

I love this post idea. It also demonstrates why I view the set that came out the year of the event as making the event rather than the set the following year which has the stats/highlights.
