Play ball! (2022)

Hey, guys. We made it. Baseball is starting tomorrow.

No more half-caring about the NCAA Tournament or hockey or whatever they do where the grass isn't green and the sun isn't shining.

Baseball may not be what it was when I was a youngster, but it's still baseball and it's still great for ignoring all the other stuff that's going on, sports-wise or otherwise.

This is why we celebrate tomorrow as if it's a national holiday, because it should be one. And I should automatically get it off, instead of cursing myself for forgetting to request time off again.

In keeping with wonderful yearly rejoicings, there are many traditions that go with Opening Day. This is one:

The last time the BRAVES won the World Series, cards looked like this:

The last time the DODGERS won the World Series, cards looked like this:

Interesting that the team with the newest name has the oldest card represented.

My hope, as in ever year, is that the Dodgers win the World Series this year. If that's not possible, I'll take one of those teams that hasn't won a World Series since the early 1990s or before.

That's probably not going to happen for most of the teams in that group, but maybe the Tigers? Or even from the never-won column, the Brewers or even the Rays?

So, happy Opening Day!

I'll be working, but there's a vacation coming soon and you better believe I'll be saying, "there's a baseball game on," to drown out all that other nonsense.

Great rundown on cards and championships. 90% of the cards are basically unfamiliar to me, but that's what happens when you limit your interest to vintage. I depend on you to let me know what is currently happening in cards. Your blog covers it all from old to new and that's why I read it.

The farther the Yankees fall down this list every year, the more I enjoy reading it!

Terrific post...my Tigers should be much improved, and, yes, it been a long championship drought for the Detroiters.

Good Job. 👍
I *love* that expression on Lowenstein's face and his body language - I wonder what just happen to prompt.

Happy opening day everybody!

Go Mets!

If I ever do a team rankings posts again, I'll probably refer to this post. I know the Pirates just shot up in my rankings... along with the Guardians.

I barely remember the Reds winning the World Series in 1990. The first time I started paying attention to baseball was when the Blue Jays were in the World Series because I thought it was so cool for teams from different countries to play each other!
