Spreading the card love

This is the giveaway post featuring the extras from my winnings from The Diamond King vintage giveaway on his blog last month.

I'll reveal the cards I'm giving away and the entry instructions at the end of the post, so you greedy grubbies can scroll right to the end if you like.

But I wanted to mention that DK's giveaway also encouraged participants to send cards out themselves. This is something I still do, even after 18 years, though not as often the last 5 or 6 years (still there are cards on my desk right now that are waiting for packaging and sending, as it's always been). But Kevin seemed to strike a nerve as I was the beneficiary of three separate card sends that I believe were related to The Diamond King's request.

First let's see some cards I received from gcrl from cards as I see them. Neither of us needs instructions for sending out cards, especially to fellow Dodger fans, but we'll take any excuse!

Goodies of the parallel kind. Will gladly add these to my collection, though I'm long past intentionally picking up parallels (parallels are now required to "speak to me" for me to add them to my collection).

The Allen & Ginter Dodgers are starting to trickle in, and that's my first Dodgers A&G insert from this year. I do like the Wicked Curves insert with the spooky "these trees are haunted" typeface.

Rats, I forgot this Bazooka mini Edwin Jackson when photographing the parallels. Sorry Edwin! Thanks gcrl!

Next up, a four-pack from The Chronicles of Fuji! Very nice. Fuji thoughtfully emailed me with what he had to make sure he wasn't sending duplicates. As often happens, I had a couple parallels of the Roy Campanella Marquee card but not this base card.

I think that's my first look at a Donruss relic card.

Appreciate the card, Fuji!

Finally some cards from Run-Fore! Kellogg's with a note that tipped me off that they were generated by The Diamond King's giveaway.

I own this Walter Alston relic already but it has some damage around the relic frame so this is a nice upgrade.

Likewise, all of these cards are O-Pee-Chee but not new to the Dodgers portion of the collection. So I will happily move them to the general OPC quest for 1971 and 1973, like I'll ever get that done.

Wow, that's a whole bunch of 1986 reprints from the 1951 Bowman set, I think it's the whole team set! I owned just a handful of these in the past so I'll be happy to add these -- who knows when I'll get those final four actual 1951 Bowman Dodgers I still need!

Perhaps you noticed right away that this 1956 Topps Clem Labine card is signed by Mr. Labine. But it took me taking a picture of it to discover that. Pretty cool.

This might be cooler to this '70s kid. These, I'm pretty sure, were cut off the cereal box. The larger one on the left is from 1977 and the Tommy John is from 1978. The Bill Madlock is from 1986 so I don't know how they were packaged, it's cardboard, like the others.

These are great mostly because I was likely staring at that same 1977 image as I ate my cereal in the morning before going to school.

Lastly, Matt has been featuring some unopened Kellogg's cards on his blog, all still in the original wrappers that you pulled out of the cereal box. Did you spot who it is? I noticed right away. That's the 1980 Kellogg's Ron Cey card.

Matt mentioned how the wrappers are lot flimsier from 1979 and 1980 than from earlier sets and how they're not even sealed on the end. That's the case for Cey where it's open at the bottom. But the card looks to be in great condition.

Many thanks for these nifty items!

All right, now it's contest time.

As you may recall, I won the vintage portion of The Diamond King's giveaway but at least half of what was offered up I owned already. I've redistributed some of it to a couple other collectors and I've also upgraded a couple cards. But the rest I'm giving away. Here it is:

Good stuff.

If you care, card condition runs the gamut from rough-and-ready to surprisingly sharp. For example much of the early '70s stuff has some dents or rips but nothing major, except the Newcombe is creased all the way through. Other cards, like all the Kellogg's cards and the '67 Bob Uecker look great.

All the rest you'll have to find out for yourself, these are won cards so I'm not going to explain them in detail.

To enter, simply comment on this post that you are entering the contest. I'll allow anonymous comments because I know that's the only way some people can comment, but if you're commenting that way, please include in the comment your first name and last initial or just a first-and-last initial so I know the comments are distinct for randomizing purposes.

There's just one winner for all of this stuff, I'm not splitting it up!

I'll allow comments until noon on Friday, Jan. 16th. I'll probably issue a reminder or two in the next couple of posts.

Thanks for playing. And thanks for sending, trading, reading and generally being good hobby people.

Nice new cards from various awesome sources. The still in the package Cey is really neat. It's funny, sometimes when I'm photographing or scanning cards I, too, notice things that I didn't catch my any of my four eyes.

Please, I would like to enter the contest.

I am specifically NOT entering since I'm not interested in the Kelloggs and have finished the rest of the sets represented. I will say that giving away a 1956 Newk is seriously generous.

Oh, sure, I'll throw my hat in the ring. It's been a week out here. Thanks, N.O.!

Throw my name in the hat. Some nice cards there, and the ones I don't want to keep will be nice for the ngt giveaways on Bluesky.
