You're about the cards. So am I

OK, so I get it, yesterday's post was a bit of a curveball with no actual cards displayed. That post was more for me than for you, I like to review my writing from time to time (I've had thoughts about examining my writing style on this blog, we'll see if I ever go through with that).

As I've said before, if I wrote nothing except "here are some more cards I got," this blog would have closed down in 2010. I like to mix it up.

But honestly, I am all about the cards when I'm not forced to do something else with my time (i.e.: job, chores, duties, responsibilities, various crises, mind-numbing drives). That's almost all of my free time: cardboard. I suspect it's like that for you, too, if you're tuning into this blog.

So, what the hell, why not show what cards I've added in my free time, under the radar, while I'm writing about magazines or music or whatever the heck else you didn't come here to see? It's a rather eclectic grouping.

These two cards arrived the Monday after the Dodgers won the World Series. Pretty timely. I won the Yoshinobu Yamamoto relic over on Bluesky on the regular giveaway thread, probably the best card I've landed from those generous folks.

The Will Smith was my bid to get at least one of the "maroon sparkle" Dodgers from this year's Heritage set. I'm not trying to track down a Dodgers sample of every Heritage parallel -- well, not actively anyway -- but I like my Dodgers collection to have cards that I would never bother to pick up for any other team.

Along those lines, I also added the Will Smith orange "crackle foil" (I hate that name) that you saw up top. The card looks great and deserves a better name.

This excellent card from last year's Topps Black & White online-only set came into my collection because I saw it displayed on cards as I see them. It took me all of 5 minutes to order my own copy once I saw that one.

A lot of the cards from this set are quite attractive. Some others aren't interesting at all. It's a perfect set for picking and choosing. This one is one of the best, if not the best.

These "playing cards" Dodgers come from the 2005 Hero Decks sets that I've long known about, pined for, promptly forgotten about, and finally landed four of them. The Hero Decks come in various team sets, all 52 cards, as in a standard playing card deck. The cards vary a bit from set to set but I believe they all feature the artwork of Chuck Senties, which I like a lot.

Although these weren't created in the 1960s, the illustrations remind me of art from that time, which is why I'm glad I picked up four 1960s Dodgers when they were offered up, on that Bluesky giveaway thread that I just mentioned, by Jason of Heavy J Studios fame. I need to get the whole Dodgers set one day, but just about every time I check, they're one of the teams that's sold-out.

More art creations, this time from former blogger gritz, who is creating various series of cards via his artwork on known Topps creations. I like the looks of these and the card on the right is a shiny foil parallel.

His card envelopes (this is Series 2 and he's working on Series 3) always come with a variety of baseball-themed trinkets that look like magnets or stickers, though I don't think they're either. I love this particular one of Mark "The Bird" Fidrych.

The 1975 Topps buyback quest never sleeps! It's still going in fits and starts. I recently added this key card (the leaders cards aren't the most elusive, but some sell for dumb prices).

This was the 539th entry into set. I just landed another one that has yet to arrive and have my eye on a couple of others (there are even more I need with really ridiculous prices -- I'm not spending 80 bucks for a buyback). Once a couple more arrive, I have a post planned about one element of the buyback chase. Look for that soon.

Today, these 2025 Heritage short-prints arrived, as I continue to chip away at completing the set. It's been more of a grind than last year -- either that or I was just more zealous a year ago. I finished the 2024 Heritage set in September! I'm still 25 cards away from finishing this one.

But it's probably because I was super-intense last year. When I think back to 2023 Heritage, I finished that one in January of 2024, so I'm pretty much on track when I think about two years ago. I hope to have the Cal Raleigh SP wrestled down very soon (if isn't swiped from my cart). There's still the matter of the Pete Crow-Armstrong, too, which has been far too overpriced. But I'll get it.

That's a sampling of the latest arrivals in the collection. Obviously there's other stuff, too (mostly already put away) and there's stuff from fellow bloggers that I need to show off soon as well.

So there you go, lots of cards for you to view this time.

what no Braves cards, come on man. :)
Very nice to see the various new arrives into Night Owl Headquarters! Your blog, your rules, so far as content goes! Maybe it's fairly "meta", but a post about a magazine that pays attention to baseball cards is about Baseball Cards.
