Afterglow

I slept 9-and-a-half hours last night/this morning. I don't even come close to that kind of sleep most days now. Probably average around 7.

The combination of the World Series and my cold shredded my sleep cycle all last week, and Sunday night was the first chance for real rest. Not only was I coming off the hangover of the Dodgers' Game 7 victory but the Bills had their biggest game of the season thus far, beating the hated Chiefs in another tense affair. We can't space this stuff out a little more, sports leagues??

I woke up today feeling better than I had in more than a week. I still don't think I'm quite there yet (see: coughing fit just 10 minutes ago), and with that amount of sleep today, I had barely any time to do anything before having to work.

A package from Dime Box Nick has been waiting for my words for 10 days now and I'm finally squeezing it in right now. As you know, Nick stopped writing on his blog nearly a year ago, but this is the second time I've received an envelope from him since! It's nice to know the card collecting wheels are still turning at the Dime Box Palace!

The card content sent was familiar, really my kind of cards -- stuff I wish I could find at the shows I go to now as it has evaporated from local shows over the last several months.

Look at that goodness! That's a whole sheet-plus off Legends On Oddballs. The Kellogg's cards, of course, are the ones that make my eyes pop-out. But look to the top and you'll see just the second 1961 Golden Press card I own in Pie Traynor, and the very first non-Dodger. Likewise, the Luis Aparicio is my first non-Dodger 1971 Dell Stamp. Nothing like expanding my collection's horizons!

Allen & Ginter minis are always a part of Nick's sends. Johnny Bench goldie has gained admittance into the frankenset mini binder. I don't think Eric Davis will get in but I need to recheck that.

I do love a vintage O-Pee-Chee card, especially when it comes to one of my childhood favorite players.

I welcome all Adrian Beltre Dodgers cards. I was surprised to learn that I needed both of these 2015 Topps inserts. This was kind of the beginning of Topps paralleling their inserts, which means I have totally lost track of what I have and what I don't. Team collecting is now a time-consuming fact-finding mission.

Just last night, my friend Greg pointed me toward a website that is nothing but every version of the 1998-2000 Topps Tek series displayed for one card in the set. Fascinating. I don't know how many versions of this 1998 Beltre I have, probably around five. There's a long way to go, not that I'm going to make an attempt.

The brunt of the envelope, of course, was Dodgers. Here are the current World Series Dodgers that were needs. As you can image, love getting these guys.

A whole bunch of parallel needs -- trust me, they're all parallels, I did all my homework.

Even more Dodgers! Some really interesting stuff here. Of course there are the aggravating early 2000s-numbered base cards of never-made-it rookies but some other cool stuff like that Mondesi Long Ball Leaders and cards I spent a good few minutes trying to figure out what the heck they are, like that Roy Campanella Wingfield Collection card. Per usual, that new-found information never sticks in my brain and when I go to sort these cards, I'll have to look it up all over again.

A couple of Walker Buehler needs. I separated these out because I got nostalgic for his 2024 World Series performance. I have a feeling that will be a thing every October.

There were some other cards, too, but I've run out of time thanks to my sleeping ways. It's always nice to hear from Nick, and, yes, I'm hoping that he returns to his blog one day. But I'm glad to still get at least get a sampling of what he's finding at all those shows that he has out there.

I miss Nick blogging too! He certainly has a "niche" for finding awesome cards :)
These are super cards! The Strawberry was clearly the best in the batch, but for some reason you showed it but didn't write about it. Shame shame. Too much sleep, I guess. I hope you get rid of the cough soon and feel back to whatever is normal soon, too.
