Time savers

I've mentioned many times lately how difficult it's been to post regularly to my blog.

It may not look like it because I'm still posting around five days a week, but there are lots of posts from the last few months that very nearly didn't make it. It's not a content thing or a lack of will (though I feel that creeping in a bit). It's almost completely a time issue.

I don't know why time is so precious now. I thought I was much busier when there was a young kid to take care of (and shuttle around), yet I was posting twice a day for some of that. But I do know I appreciate it, maybe more than ever, when I can save some time.

Large care packages are terrific. I think everyone agrees with that. It's like Christmas in a box. It also takes a long time to go through, and sort and put away. Days and days and weeks and weeks. Sometimes months. It can be a project in itself, a wonderful project, but it doesn't exactly save time.

Then there are the care packages of 20 cards or less. I think I'm liking those more and more. They're time savers and space savers. I catalog them, blog them and file them in probably less than an hour total. It feels like a relief.

I got a 12-card package from Cards On Cards recently, have been getting cards from him for 17 years. I like that this one is small and this post will be short.

The highlight of the package was nine cards from the 1990 Dodgers Police set. Out of all the Dodgers Police sets from 1980-93, the 1990 set was a glaring weakness in my stadium giveaway run. I'm missing a handful of cards from 1981 and 1991 but I think everything else is complete (I don't think sets were issued in 1985 and 1987, but I need to look closer).

But for 1990, I had zero. I don't know why. Perhaps the 100th anniversary celebration made the cards more desirable? Anyway, now I have nine of them to take back some of the embarrassment. They're still as weirdly shaped as ever and a complete scoundrel when it comes to collectors who like to page their cards, but I add them happily.

That means just three regular-sized cards were in the package. Of the above two, Vogel was a need. I've recently received the Archives Pages a couple of times. Vogel still isn't out of Class A (this card is from 2021) and he hit .177 last year, so it's not looking good for him staying in a Dodger binder around here.

This goofy thing will though. This is from 2024 Panini Prizm, which apparently was released around Christmas time? I had no idea, which means this "green ice" parallel is my first card from the set. They sure picked an odd photo of Lasorda, though I'm guessing they needed something that hid logos.

And we're done. Wasn't that refreshing?

Maybe I should work on writing shorter posts. That would definitely be a time saver.

Big mail days can be so time consuming, though I will still take a big one over a small one. Though some small ones can pack a punch.

I haven't written any hobby goals in years... but one that I have thought about is trying cut down on the length of my blog posts. Like you, time is an issue. Unlike you, I haven't written 5 posts in one week in years.

My ramblings of an old collector are literally, mini posts that I write as I have them. Some of them could undoubtly be turned into longer posts, but like you time is not on my side.
