This will do

Just a short post today. I seem to be in a period where the ideas aren't coming as quickly and also time is limited.

I finally -- FINALLY -- received this Topps Now card of Walker Buehler's reaction to recording the final out in the 2024 World Series. I ordered it almost immediately after the World Series ended and it didn't show up until yesterday. So about a month-and-a-half.

I shouldn't have been impatient because it was a preorder deal, which I didn't notice right away (too much partying). But even then, shipment was marked for Dec. 2 and that didn't happen.

In general, it seems to be taking awhile to produce a card set of the Dodgers' World Series title. The 15-card Topps Now commemorative set has just hit the online sites and after taking a brief stroll through ebay to gauge pricing -- well, this card of Walker Buehler will do nicely for now. Spending $150 for 15 pretty ugly cards is wild.

This card isn't part of the commemorative set, it's part of the season-long Topps Now set that's almost 900 cards in total. This is card #884. But I'm glad I got it when I did. It cost $4.85. Most offers for this same card are going for $9.00. And a bunch of other Dodgers World Series Topps Now cards are going for quite a bit more.

I don't know what's so difficult about producing a special blaster box tribute set for around $25. Didn't Topps used to do that? Maybe I'm mixing that up with those premium sets Topps did for teams around 2008. Or maybe something else is still coming.

I should be more patient. But I still have my doubts and I'm not paying anything close to $150 for some Topps Now cards. They're World Series champions, make some real cards of them!!

I realize I grew up during an era when World Series winners were recognized only in the following year's set, and, yes, I'm looking forward to that, too.

There are three reasons why you’re seeing prices like that - greed, greed and more greed. The new normal.

Yeah, I suppose a blaster tribute set would hurt sales of the high-priced one. Pity.

I just paid about $7 for a Topps Now card commemorating the Juan Soto signing. I've bought Topps Now cards before but this more than I've paid before.

There was a World Series retail set for the 2016 Cubs, I seem to recall. Last time a team from the Central won it; I wouldn't otherwise expect to see such a product where I live.

That Buehler card would be pretty lonely up in the 800 range of Night Cards.

I bought the Topps Now cards for the last game at the Oakland Coliseum and it seemed like it took forever to arrive. I'd have to go back and check... but a month and a half sounds right.

I don't buy many Now cards, but I kind of like when it takes them a while to arrive. In my mind it's taking so long because Topps is affixing sticker autos to my cards. Note: They are not.
