Leftovers

I have a handful of different collection-related thoughts and scans sitting around that need to be posted before they go bad.

You might dismiss this as warmed-over leftovers. But I happen to love leftovers, so this kind of housekeeping post appeals to me a great deal.

Here are some random items that separately couldn't make up their own blog post.

A little over a week ago, I mentioned receiving a Topps Ron Cey Collecting Box. Through some research I discovered that they were first advertised on Topps' 1981 wrappers.

The above wrapper is from 1981 and you can see the advertisement on the right. This wrapper was sent to me by GCA of The Collective Mind.

What I didn't mention in that earlier post is that I also discovered that the Cey Collecting Box continued to be advertised on Topps wrappers in 1982, 1983 and 1984. GCA also found one of those examples from 1983 and sent it to me.

A Ron Cey Collecting Box AND a chance to win a Colecovision???? 1983 really was the best year.

These wrappers will head to my binder of random stuff that is getting more and more random by the month. Some day I am going to have find proper pages for all of those things -- which are only in the binder because it's such a pain to find proper pages for them -- because I'm running out of room.

That binder resides in my card room, which my collection is definitely outgrowing. One day, it will be migrating across the hallway to a larger space, but there are no imminent plans and I expect it will be a few years before that happens.

So I find value in every corner of space that I have. I've already featured the card room a couple of times, but why don't I show you a couple of things that are on the walls?

Everything you will see in these room photos will be crooked. I must have been drunk when I was taking these.

This display is a combination of what I think is important and what the women in my life think is important. They peaceably coexist.

This is a signed print by an artist that I am ashamed to say I do not know (I am sure I have a piece of paper with his name somewhere). It's one of several items that I have signed by Duke Snider. This was given to me quite awhile ago by my brother. It's probably the coolest thing I have currently hanging on a wall.

This wonderful 1988 World Series wall plaque is a proud reminder of the Dodgers' last World Series title, listing each of the postseason games, the team and the coaching staff. This happened so long ago that I can't remember how I obtained this. That's why the Dodgers need to win a World Series this year so I can remember stuff about it!

Hanging above that is one of those terrific plastic helmets that were all the rage with young baseball fans in the early 1980s. My brothers and I had a stash of about 14 or 15 different teams that we wore during various ballgames played with a rubber-coated baseball (not a real baseball, those plastic helmets wouldn't protect you from a stone's throw). I don't know what happened to all those other helmets, but of course I kept the Dodgers one.

Hanging high up on the wall is a commemorative bat that you can find at one of the many Cooperstown souvenir shops. I don't buy stuff like this. My brother gave it to me back in 1998. You can see it came from the Induction weekend from that year. That was the year Don Sutton was inducted. So now you know why it's hanging in my card room.

That's some cross-stitch item my mom made a long time ago when she did that cross-stitch stuff. It's there just in case you had no idea I was a Dodger fan until you randomly looked at the wall. "Oh, he must like the Dodgers."

So now, with the earlier posts, you've pretty much seen everything in my card room, although I need to show the shelves on the other side of the room again some day as there have been many additions.

The red, white and blue of the cross-stitch display puts me in mind of something I should have posted on the 4th of July. It would have made for an easy post, which is something everyone wants during a holiday.

I happen to own three and only three relic cards of former Dodgers speedster Dee Gordon, who is now toiling in anonymity with the Marlins.

The colors of those three relics are:

Red

White

and Blue.

Better late than never, huh?

Hope you enjoyed the leftovers. If not, I'll try to cook up something fresh soon. Making blog posts from scratch isn't the easiest thing you know.

Ha! I think that blue came to you from the Lucky 13 game! Glad I could contribute.

I'm not a fan of leftover food... but leftover sports memorabilia is a-okay with me. I think sports memorabilia that come from family members are always especially cool.
