Night Owl Cards

   I like to think that I do quite a bit of baseball card research on this blog that not a lot of other bloggers or collectors do.   It's kind of my thing -- I like the research, I like finding out and I can spend weeks/months on a project without getting bored. In fact, I like that research a lot of times can be leisurely. No deadlines, just announce it when you're done.   But once in awhile, that can come back to bite me.   Last month, the SABR Baseball Cards bluesky account wondered who had appeared the most in Topps' Traded sets in the 1980s.   I immediately took that as marching orders to find out who had the most cards in 1980s Traded sets. I have done something like this many times for the blog, especially back in the old Twitter days.   Well, unbeknownst to me, someone else was doing the same thing. My goodness, we're just starting right up with this school thing aren't we?   For decades I could count on high school football starting before any other school sport and always after Labor Day. But games are afoot -- looks at calendar -- tomorrow -- and other sports that kindly waited for football to get going are now opening at the same time, if not earlier. It's a free-for-all.   How does that affect you? It doesn't, except the owl is too busy for just about every prospective post on my "to blog" list. Instead I have another edition of The Awesome Night Card Binder page review, plus some stuff tacked on the end.   When I last did an Awesome Night Card Binder post, I left off at page 32.     The main reason for starting this series other than having a post for the blog is to land some easily obtained cards of my team from that super-plentiful decade of the 1980s.   Hopefully, I half-thought, I could be done with collecting '80s cards forever.   Well, from the point I first started researching the first post of the series, I figured out that wasn't going to happen -- there were plenty of obscure and hard-to-find cards created in the '80s, and so many of them.    But I have been able to grab a few cards, even complete some team sets, thanks to this series. Often what happens is I nab a card or two while I'm writing the next post in the series ... and then I stall out. That's what happened with the last post in April .   I quickly grabbed the Pee Wee Reese 1987 Hygrade card to finish that team set, except for the variations that I'll probably never pursue.      And I nabbed the final card I needed for the 1987 TCMA 1955 Bro...
