Silence, please!

Contrary to what TBS would have you believe, Chad Billingsley was the star of Game 2 of the NLDS series between the Dodgers and the Cubs. It wasn't the wistful Cubs fans.

Judging by the endless camera shots of Cubs rooters, pining and pleading and yearning and lamenting, you would have thought baseball fans had tuned into the game to watch the world premiere of "Hopeless Romantics Bury Their Faces in Their Hands." I wish I had a counter, because I know they displayed more than 200 closeups of Cubs fans during the game.

Even when Billingsley was being interviewed after the game by Tom Verducci, the only member of TBS's broadcasting crew able to utter three sentences without making an error in fact, TBS couldn't contain themselves. While Billingsley was talking, they flashed to a forlorn Cub fan couple staring out at the field, wishing, still wishing, so desperately wishing, their dreams dashed, their hopes torn asunder, their lives pitiful, the mournful drumbeat of 19-oh-8, 19-oh-8 pounding in their ears.

It's just so much crap. So much pointless, this-has-absolutely-nothing-to-do-with-anything garbage. And it wasn't just the pictures either. The announcers couldn't stop with the "will they EVER win?" talk. It's 15 minutes after the game, and I'm still suffering from crap overload. TBS, you've broken my bullshit detector. You owe me a new one.

Yes, the Cubs made four errors. Yes, they couldn't hit. But they couldn't hit because BILLINGSLEY HAS AWESOME STUFF and is becoming a terrific pitcher. And it took players like Martin and Furcal to capitalize on those errors. A little credit, please, for the team that won 10-3.

Obviously, I want the Dodgers to win Saturday or Sunday and prevent the series returning to Wrigley. But now even more than ever.

I hate to admit it, but I really have to agree with you. Bills is a top notch starter and will be your ace for years to come. He definitely doesn't get enough credit.

Billingsley's overall numbers (IP, K, H, HR, WHIP, ERA) this year compare favorably with Josh Beckett 07, but you won't hear that.

The Dodger offense was bound to break out, but you won't hear that.

According to the media, the only stories worth hearing about the Dodgers are Manny being Manny and Torre this-that-and-the other thing.

Either way, I don't care! DODGERS UP 2-0!

Someone definitely needs to invent the Tony Gwynn mute button. Great player, terrible announcer...
