Bite-size card packages

During busy months like these -- during what is literally the busiest week of the year -- I appreciate small card packages. Yes, small. As in, a lesser amount of cards. As in few. Tiny. Micro. The least amount possible. Bite-size, if you will. But not "fun size." Because that just pissed us off as kids. Something that I can open quickly, admire, and then be off to whatever godforsaken task that awaits me. Fortunately, I've received several such small packages lately. None were smaller than the envelope I encountered unexpectedly from JayBee a few days ago. I had no idea what card could be inside. It turns out it was the James Loney gold-glazed card (what are we calling these things?). I, unfortunately, had come across this card just a couple days prior. But, as you know, there are a number of Dodger bloggers with an insatiable thirst for cards like this. It will find a happy destination. This card is a former Nebulous 9 need. It sat on my list for a goo...

Hurry up and wait

For the past week, I have had the overwhelming feeling of being held hostage, by my job, the weather and emergency home repairs. I haven't even been able to go to the store to complete simple errands because the above three elements have been barring the door. When I do get a free moment to actually emerge into the outdoors and breath the fresh air, it's all very rushed. Because, you know, I MUST get back to work to do whatever completely pointless task a superior has dreamed up for me. They call it "busy work" for a reason. It's another onset of "hurry up and wait." Or more accurately: "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt and HURRYUP!!!!!" During one of those hurry-up moments this afternoon, I broke free and landed in Target. Consumed by an intoxicating feeling of being able to do WHATEVER I WANT, I ran among the retirees and Canadian shoppers (they're everywhere these day...

Something to snack on

This is a big day for a lot of people. They'll be watching the Steelers and Cardinals, chuckling at the commercials and singing along with The Boss. It's not a big day for me. It hasn't been for some time. The Super Bowl means I'll be at work, trying to come up with some extravagant layout and clever headline to salute the winner of Super Bowl Cuarenta Y Tres (I think that looks better than XLIII. It sounds better, too). The game will be on at work, but I'll be focused on the five blank pages in front of me. Given that everyone's mind is on the game or on the fact that 2009 Topps has officially hit the streets (that is, if you live in the Southeast ), I'll spare everyone a long, pensive post. Instead, here are a bunch of short, unrelated items that I've been sitting on for a little bit. Something to snack on during one of the biggest food-fest days of the year. I'll start with the Dodgers' agonizingly long quest for another starting pitcher. ...

Soap story

I believe I've officially arrived as a card blogger. I say that not because I received four separate card packages in the mail today (although that is way beyond awesome), but because those four packages mean that I am now majorly behind in returning cards to folks, and I've come to the realization that that is the way it's going to be from this point. So, if you're expecting a package from me, it IS coming. You are on my list. It just may take awhile, and with me being out of town for a few days, that won't be speeding things up any. And if you're not expecting a package from me, you may be getting one anyway. Because some of you are on my list for that, too. I'm also about to get behind on my emails because after tomorrow I probably won't be near a computer for a few days. But we could all use a little break from cards anyway, right? Riiiiiiiiiiiigggghht? Stop looking at me that way. Anyway, on to the post topic: I quite enjoy playing all the guessing...
