A proper tribute

If I had held off just a couple more days, I could have done what I wanted to do, which was package both of my Project 2020 acquisitions in one post. Little did I know that as I was writing about how I was still waiting for the one Project 2020 card that I had purchased (the other was a gift), that it was already on its way to me, likely being shipped out that very day. Let's take a good look at the Project 2020 card that I wanted so much that I threw the required $19.99 at it: My goodness, that's a beauty. I'm not sure if one of the primary reasons I enjoy the card stands out against a black background, so here's another view: Maybe that stands out a little better? I don't know. The best view would be if I pulled it out of its magnet holder and scanned it in all its naked glory. But I've already decided that I will keep both the Koufax and the Robinson in their holders. I plan to display the two cards -- and this is a first for me, becaus...

My Andy Warhol page

So, some cards arrived from Zach of Autographed Cards just the other day. He told me he had a few of the 2003 Fan Favorites cards on my list and shipped them off. The Kent Tekulve is the highlight, of course. Believe me, fellow Teke fans who may not have been old enough to see him at his height, we were baffled that this guy was actually getting real major leaguers out. Here are the rest that Zach sent. These five get me down to six to complete the set, and then I would have all three Fan Favorites sets finished off. That would be a nice point of pride in my collection, something that the current Archives product could never hope to match. Zach sent two other cards that I didn't expect. It seems he got suckered into buying the 65th anniversary Archives product at Walmart, too. And he unearthed two Dodgers in his box. One was a Koufax rookie replica. How weird is it to see a 1975 Topps back on the reverse of a 1955 Topps card? The other card is another one ...

'52 Jackie on repeat

I received this super fabulous, golden god of a card from Don a week or so ago. I had no idea what set it was from, and when I turned it over to look at the copyright, I saw "2013," and was even more confused. But Don informed me that it was from this year's Topps factory set, Walmart edition. I'm very happy to have this card because not only do I never have an occasion to buy a factory set, but I'm so out of touch that I'd probably never know that this card existed. The back isn't anything you haven't seen before, but the card number alarms me a little. I don't know what "JRG-1" stands for, but I'm guessing it's something like "Jackie Robinson Greats Card Number 1 In An Exclusive Set Of Five That You'll Never Get Sucker." Now, I'd like to add that I really, really like this card. Gold. Shiny. Refractor. Jackie. How can you go wrong, right? But let's look at the bottom left of the card back...
