It's quiet

So, are you enjoying your 3-day, 4-day, 5-day holiday weekend?

This is the time of the year that it gets quiet in my neighborhood (save for the forthcoming fireworks). Everyone clears out for the lake or the campsite or whatever people that I can't relate to do. I went for a walk earlier today and saw one guy trimming the curb and two teenage girls playing tennis. That was it.

I don't have the luxury of clearing out. I am not even getting a holiday day off, just two days off this week -- if I can find a second day. There was another shake-up at the office recently and now when I step into my department, I'm talking to myself. It's weird. And I don't know what's going to happen later when schools ramp up again.

The social media sites are quiet now, too. Not a lot of blog interaction. Twitter is extremely wonky, so much that I can barely use it. So, I might as well show some cards I got here. I'm not going anywhere and nobody's reading anyway so I don't need to be fancy.

Speaking of not fancy, that's what I can get away with when things are quiet. Nobody's going to call the complaint department because I'm showing Panini college cards.

I received these from Zippy Zappy. They're North Carolina cards, which I don't collect. But it's sometimes Dodgers third baseman Michael Busch (and a variation, of course) and it's a pretty color.

These all arrived from gcrl and it's all of the Topps Series 2 Dodgers except for James Outman, I'll have to do something about that on my own. But the rest of the set is complete! I don't need to buy these myself. Wooo!

My goal is not to purchase any Series 2, which shouldn't be that difficult. I'm expecting a complete set gift at Christmas time so no need wasting my money on inserts, which are really not good this year.

Jim sent a couple other current items, including the Max Scherzer card at the top of the post. Gee, it's good to see the '87 design again. It had been so long.

The Luis Rodriguez "VV" card completes the three-player Dodger set for that particular insert for me. The two Heritage cards go toward the set chase -- or at least the non-SP portion of the set chase. I'm not doing what I did with 2008 Heritage again. (Uh, TBA on next year's Heritage).

Speaking of which:

I received a bunch of cards from this year's marvelous set from Junk Wax Jay. He's also gone a bit nuts with Heritage this year and likes it just as much. He sent a few more cards than these here, but that picture turned out crooked and I'm too lazy to reshoot.

So that gets me to 60 percent of the set and if you throw out the short-prints, I've got 74 percent of it complete.

This is what's left, SPs included:

1, 5, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 24, 33, 36, 37, 38, 39, 41, 48, 49, 54, 59, 60, 63, 67, 70, 71, 74, 80, 83, 84, 85, 88, 92, 95, 97, 98, 99, 102, 105, 106, 109, 114, 122, 125, 127, 132, 135, 136, 140, 142, 147, 152, 154, 162, 166, 168, 169, 172, 173, 178, 179, 182, 187, 193, 196, 199, 200, 203, 204, 212, 218, 221, 224, 236, 238, 241, 243, 246, 247, 249, 253, 256, 257, 260, 261, 266, 272, 273, 277, 282, 284, 287, 288, 289, 292, 307, 308, 309, 321, 326, 328, 330, 332, 336, 338, 344, 347, 351, 354, 358, 362, 364, 366, 371, 375, 378, 380, 383, 384, 387, 392, 399, 401, 402, 403 404, 405, 406, 407, 408, 409, 410, 411, 412, 413, 415, 416, 418, 419, 420, 421, 423, 424, 425, 426, 427, 429, 430, 431, 432, 433, 434, 435, 436, 437, 438, 439, 440, 443, 444, 445, 446, 448, 449, 450, 451, 452, 453, 455, 456, 457, 459, 460, 461, 462, 463, 464, 465, 466, 468, 469, 470, 471, 472, 473, 474, 475, 476, 477, 478, 479, 480, 481, 483, 484, 485, 486, 487, 489, 490, 492, 493, 494, 495, 496, 497, 498, 499

I also need a fair amount of extra Dodgers since I've got to get two of them -- that ol' team collector/set collector issue. I need all except Betts, Muncy, Outman and Thompson. I'm good on most of the leaders cards, but need two of the Betts-Buxton All-Star card.

I don't know why I'm broadcasting that today though. You're all at the lake. You can't even get an internet connection!

Just one more group of cards to show. I received a pack of Bowman as a thank you gift from one of the guys who was laid off at work. He's a great guy and a terrific worker and has already landed a new job in his chosen field.

He knows I collect but obviously not that I don't collect Bowman. Here's what was inside:

Anyway, enjoy the holiday if you can. My vacation's coming (I think). And then we'll see how quiet I get.

I forgot to link to the latest 1993 Upper Deck post the last time, so there's two of them to link to now, here and here.

That Yusniel Diaz card - Topps finally has a somewhat different background for a flagship photo, and it's composed so a tree is growing out of his back.
Okay, 1st: the Outman is in the box coming to you this week.
2: so are the following Heritage. Mark them off your list.

14, 36, 39, 49, 83, 88, 109, 114, 127, 142, 166, 173, 200, 236, 238, 241, 243, 249, 256, 266, 277, 288, 358, 362, 380, 399.

I have a number of Heritage extras, so I might knock some off of your list (including some SPs). I’ll check the list on my next day off.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with shake-ups at your office. Before retiring, I remember dealing with cutbacks, office closures, etc. and it was not fun. The 74 design of the Heritage set really does look good. Best of luck to you on your chase to complete the set.

4 day weekend for me, although that’s taking Monday off without pay.
Enjoy the holiday!
I hope your work situation gets sorted out. Layoffs are never easy, or enjoyable.

Working today (Monday), only have off on Tuesday. Been working from home all except 1 day this calendar year, which completely makes sense since there is only 1 person in the work groups I'm in that is also based out of the same office (everyone else is in India and the Phillipines), so I have been doing a lot of talking to myself around here as well. Been there with the uneasy feeling of whether the job will be there the next day and stuff. Only decided to comment to let you know that, and to stay strong through it all.

Working today, and Wednesday & Thursday this week. They decided to give us 10-hour holidays and not switch back to the 8-hour schedule for the 4th and Juneteenth this year. Breaks up the otherwise arduous weeks nicely.
(Reading blogs is part of my normal routine, so it's not just because of the holiday).
The '74 design came out nice this year, and I want to get some, but it's pointless since I either don't know these guys or the ones I do are on different teams now.

I might be on summer break... but I've been watching and taking care of my dad, so it isn't exactly camping at the lake. Luckily, my brother has a pool... so I was able to go swimming while my dad soaked in the sun and napped in his chair.

I'm still hammering out my 4th of July plans. If it were up to me, I'd be sitting in my office organizing cards. But reality is... I'll either be with my dad... or at my friend's house for her family's bbq. As long as it cools off... I'm happy with either.

I, like you, am not going anywhere. It's quiet around here too. It wasn't a couple of days ago because, we had the grandkids. Kept me away from working on my collection and catching up on blogs. Appreciate you continuing to post. I got you on the Series 2 James Outman. Look for it soon!

I'm looking forward to relaxing tomorrow (at least before the fireworks start). Hope to get some much-needed card sorting/filing time in.

I can probably help you out with some of those Heritage needs - I'll take a look through my dupes in the next day or two!

It will be quiet down here for the most part. Worked today (Monday) and to do yard work the morning of the 4th then go see the OKC Dodgers play in the evening.

Sorry to hear about the job issues. I've dealt with that a few times in my life. Ill keep you in my thoughts that you can find some peace in the situation.

I wish I could have gone to somewhere nice, but all of us in my house are currently sick ...no fun at all. At least you don't have that to deal with.

I don't know about Twitter anymore, but from what I've seen on the blogs lately, it seems like the overall engagement is up a little again; at least amongst those who still read and comment on blog posts.

I had 4 days off for the 4th but came back to work the night of the 4th, so no BBQ and fireworks for me (I got to see a bunch of fireworks driving to work though).
