Football takes over

I used to take Thanksgiving week off from work. This was my ritual for years, an entire two full decades practically. I'm no longer comfortable doing that. Within the last few years, there have been two developments in my job that have made vacations at this time of the year almost impossible. 1. Basketball season starts earlier 2. Football season ends later Come on, high school sports, rein it in. I now spend the Thanksgiving period working on the special high school basketball preview section. Out of all of the seasonal sports preview sections we produce, the basketball one is always the most rushed and hectic, thanks to the aforementioned Thanksgiving holiday and high school football's refusal to let go. The rest of my week will be occupied by the very demanding football. Our area high school football teams continue to perform better and better in state play. Dreamy

It looks like Colbey of Cardboard Collections broke a box of 2019 Diamond Kings recently. His DK packages have been floating all over the country and an envelope of the stuff arrived in my mailbox a couple of days ago. Diamond Kings is one of the more tolerable Panini baseball products. I can't get mad at legends in my baseball card sets. I need something to cling to with Panini anyway since it's obvious it's never bringing back Hometown Heroes. Two things I've noticed with this year's Diamond Kings: 1. The images have a dream-like quality. Whatever filter Panini applied to its photos this year turns the card into a water-color painting. The colors are saturated and there's some sort of tidal wave design in the corners. 2. DK has gotten boring and stingy with its subjects. I'm going to test my theory that the same Dodgers legends appear in Diamond Kings year-after-year in a minute, but I want to address the stinginess first. In 2015, the first ...
