C.A.: 2023 Topps Stadium Club Thurman Munson

(I was in the middle of writing this post yesterday, beginning with how March is trying to kill me again, when a fire truck came down the street and knocked out our internet by pulling down the cable wire in front of our home that had been hanging low due to a giant tree limb that fell on it during a windstorm last weekend that I didn't get time to tend to because I had to have my vehicle windshield replaced due to an unrelated mishap and because of a doctor's visit that became a whole week-long thing because I'm old and because it's the busiest damn work week of the entire year as well. So, um, no post yesterday. But I'M STILL ALIVE, you piece of shit month ... but still 15 days to go . It's time for Cardboard Appreciation. This is the 335th in a series): I finally acquired this card from 2023 Stadium Club. I've seen it displayed several times since Stadium Club's release almost two months ago. It's one of those cards that's cool and I've t...

Trying to capture the spirit of the thing

I didn't buy a blaster of 2023 Stadium Club. This image is here to make a proper intro. I've avoided this set because it's arrived so late and a number of the cards are out of date. Plus, Stadium Club is only really good when you're super-excited for its arrival and can gloss over the boring inserts and limited number of cards per box/pack. When it shows up six-to-seven months later than usual, that enthusiasm disappears. But I am keeping in the spirit of the thing. While 2024 Topps flagship openings are exploding all over the internet, I'm showing off my '23 Stadium Club Dodgers team set that arrived today, fashionably late. Hey, at least I'm not posting it six months late. There are 12 Dodgers in this year's set, and I'd say the images are maybe about average for a Stadium Club team set. Not too much exciting here actually. But I'll let the ranking explain my feelings, because you know there's going to be a ranking! Excuse the wonky light...

Better in my mind

For about 90 percent of the life of this blog, I've known around 2-3 card shows a year. Each of those shows were at least an hour away, so I've equated card shows for the past 15 years with excursions. Better make it a day, because it's going to be awhile! Because of this the "monthly card show in town" sounded so nice. I wondered what that was like. I'd be envious of bloggers who "just got back from the monthly card show." -- the monthly card show, because it had been there for awhile, maybe it's always been there. Must be nice.   I remember what I'd think reading those posts about monthly shows. "If I had a monthly show, I'd be there every month, what a wonderful world."   So in the last year or so, my town has set up its own monthly card show. I've written about it. But 2008-22 night owl would be very disappointed. I haven't kept up with the schedule very well. And I actually skipped a show last month, something th...
