The perfect cards for when you have nothing to say

I am not very good at writing short posts. I like my posts to have something to say and the only way I seem to be able to do that is by making them long. Whenever I try to make it short, the post feels empty and can't help but think "who is going to read that?" It feels like I have nothing to say. But there is no time for a long post today. I'm going to have to write a short one, meaning I feel like I need cards that are appropriate for when you have nothing to say. What are the perfect cards for when you have nothing to say? That's right! Prizm! Perfect. God, look at those things. Every thought has just flown out of my head. I'm coming up with ... nothing. I don't even know if Panini is making Prizm cards anymore. I've completely lost track because I lost interest like five years ago. These were sent to me by Jon of Community Gum (who is probably wondering why he sent them now). He says they were on my want list. I'll take his ...

An eyeful

I used to enter a few box breaks. By "a few" I mean maybe two a year. Now, I almost never enter a box break. I'm not entirely sure why. Commitment issues probably. No, actually I know the main reason is money. I never have it. I must carve out specific moments in time, scheduled waaaaay in advance, in which I may spend money on cards. I can't let a box break announced out of nowhere upset my precarious financial situation. But what about free? A free box break? Oh, yes, I have time in my schedule for that. Colbey of Cardboard Collections recently decided to give away two boxes of 2016 Donruss Optic out of the goodness of his heart. Well, well! Twenty-four packs of Optic! That's an eyeful! Optic is key because all the shiny detracts from the absence of logos. I don't notice quite as much that the players are wearing sanitation jumpers when everything is so bright and lustrous. And even though I had completed the Dodgers base set from that year of ...

If I collected differently

I am a specific type of card collector, what I think most people would call a "traditional collector." I try to collect the way I did as a kid, by buying packs at the store closest to me. That process is not the same as it once was. The stores where you find cards are much bigger than they were when I was a kid. The cards are not as available in as many stores as they were then. And, the same cards aren't available in each store. That was almost never the case when I started out. So my method of collecting is basically a relic from 1975. It's not very effective. But "effective," to me, is not high on the list of collecting priorities. What is important is fun, connecting with childhood, and keeping as much of the adult perspective out of it as possible. If I was collecting in an adult way, I'd probably buy boxes. I don't have a card shop near me, so I'd order them online. I'd probably order a box for every set I liked, and maybe mult...
