No one's going to find a point to this post

When I can, I try to make my posts about something. But lately I'm in a meandering thoughts kind of mood. There is no unifying theme to this post. In fact, I can't even give you a good reason why I'm making you suffer through a Goudey card of Jeff Kent, other than that it was sent to me by Jeremy of No One Is Going to Read This Blog , and I'm going to show some stuff he mailed my way. Oh, and Kent was with the Giants the last time I rooted against them in the World Series. Go, Rangers. OK, here is where I really start to meander. I am trying to condense my sidebar a little bit. It's getting overgrown. I started by creating a page for the Define the Design feature and putting a link on the sidebar. But what I really want to do is create tabs at the top of the page for a lot of the features. It would make things so much cleaner. But I can't figure out how to create more than one tab at the top of the page. I can create the "home" tab and then ...

Your basic pack break/trade post

I suppose everyone is watching the game right now. I know that's what I'm doing. So there's no point in me going through the effort of trying to disguise my pack break or trade post with some sort of convoluted, semi-clever theme. For the few who don't want to watch the game, I'll treat you with a super basic pack break, followed by a super basic trade package. It's all I can manage, because right now I'm intently sending bad mojo vibes toward that guy wearing pajama pants on the mound. And that's a lot of work. First, the pack break. It's a pack sent to me by Jeremy of No One's Going to Read This Blog . He also sent some cards, which you'll see later someday. One pack of 2008 Topps Chrome, hobby edition: #58-Melky Cabrera: A guy I never hear about now that he is not a Yankee. Funny how that happens, huh? #102 - Kenji Johjima: Now that Johjima has left major league ball, I think we deserve a refund for all the Johjima cards w...

B.C. (before Clayton)

I think it's pretty well known in blog land that my favorite current player is Clayton Kershaw. I do enough begging for his cards. This golden oldie -- all the way from 2009 -- came from Jeremy of No One's Going To Read This Blog after I made a pathetic spectacle of myself for the card. I'll show more of the cards that he sent at the end of this post. But I wanted to write about the evolving process of my favorite player. I have had eight favorite players since I started watching baseball as a kid. I already posted the list on this blog, but it could use some updating, so here it is: 1975-83: Ron Cey 1983-85: Pedro Guerrero 1985-94: Orel Hershiser 1995-99: Raul Mondesi 2000-04: Shawn Green 2005-07: Brad Penny 2007-08: Russell Martin 2009-present: Clayton Kershaw They are/were all talented players at one point or another, but there aren't a lot of other similarities among the group except that they all played for the Dodgers. If I had to explain m...

I get stuff

Nice, right? That's a sketch card from Jeremy of No One's Going to Read This Blog . It looks very much like this year's Allen & Ginter black-bordered cards. Me likey . I might have to incorporate into my blog somehow. Jeremy was great enough to send this, along with a few cards. I've mentioned before that I am always amazed by what fellow traders send in conjunction with their cards. It makes me want to do the same. I try to send a note, but really I've got to personalize my card packages a bit more. Who knows if I'll actually go through with it. Like the Dodgers with men on base, execution is something of a problem. I thought I'd feature a handful of non-card items that I've received in the last week or so, along with some of the cards. First I'll show a couple of cards that Jeremy sent since I like them so much. This card means I am finished with the 2006 Topps base and Updates & Highlights base set. I have all 989 cards of the fi...
