Night Owl Cards

My want lists rehaul has been going on for eight months since a crash erased them back in April and I decided to revise the way I listed them. It's very tedious work, even more tedious than cataloging cards. It's difficult to get myself to update them. So I continue to apologize to anyone who has looked at them in the last eight months and can't find any listings for loads of sets. But it's no picnic for me either. One of the great advantages to having want lists is crossing off card numbers when you obtain the cards. I can't tell you how much joy I get from crossing wants off. OK, actually, yes, I can tell you much I enjoy it. This is how much: A week or two ago I received a bunch of cards from Jon of Community Gum . He is one of the few collectors I know who is interested in the Upper Deck Documentary set that was issued almost 10 years ago. The execution on that set was so off the mark that Documentary belongs on the island of misfit sets. But than...

The older the night card, the better it gets. The more oddball the night card, the better it gets. So what we have here is the best kind of night card. An old oddball night card. I have a few oddball night cards, but I don't think I have an oddball night card this old. It arrived from Kevin of Orioles Card "O" the Day . I like this card not only because it's a Post card from 1961 that you had to cut off of a box, and not only because the glowing bank of lights appear to be burning the backside of Billy Klaus' head, but because of the last sentence on the card. "During the off-season he works in a bowling alley." That is fantastic. Can you imagine walking into a bowling alley, going up to the counter, telling the man that you wear a size 11 and then J.J. Well, Fuji's contest is just about over. Another one has begun over at Nachos Grande, but I'm not a part of that as I have a maturity issue over writing about the same cards that others are. (By the way the Ginter code has been cracked . Seems Cynthia Pritchard was not as bubbly as everyone thought). I'm not at The National. Probably a good thing as long lines and I do not agree. So you're left with me and my dwindling thoughts. Totally overworked by the Olympics and without any time or ability to produce anything original. I was in a Target on Saturday. That's a big deal, because I haven't been inside that store in more than a month. Some of that has to do with having no money, and some of that has to do with possessing no cash. To illustrate how long it's been since I've been in Target, here are some of the card products that were there Saturday that were not there just over 30 days ago: 1. Topps Lineage 2. Bowman Platinum 3. Topps stickers 4. Obak (baseball and football) 5. Topps Chrome Plus a number of assorted non-baseball products that do not hold my interest. This is why it annoys me when people complain that there's nothing new to open. More than five products came out in the last month. That doesn't fit my definition of "nothing new." Since it was my first time standing in that aisle in too long, I decided to go the variety route.
