Shift change

What time of day do you write your blog posts? For the last six or seven years, I've written the posts for Night Owl Cards in the afternoon, somewhere between 2-5 p.m., usually. I've done this for so long it's become ritual and the perfect time for me to write. That's all going to change starting tomorrow. My work shift is changing. The shift change will impact my life in a variety of ways, from when I see my family to when I eat. But the important part for the blog is: when will I write? Beginning on Tuesday, the time of day when I would usually write, I will be working. So now I have to find another time to write. Man, that will be weird. There are a few possibilities and I've already picked one, but let's go through them just for fun. Post in the morning as I will be getting up a couple hours earlier now There is not a chance in hell I will be doing this. If you want anything coherent coming out of this blog you don't want me to post in t...

Awesome night card, pt. 273: Reruns of reruns

I decided to read up on the next Topps set to hit card aisles this season. It's the annual Archives issue and it's scheduled to be released a week from today. I've mentioned everything that distresses me about Archives so many times that I feel like I'm parodying myself. Even though it seems like this product is targeted toward me, I don't think I'm meant for this product. It's just too irksome. I should walk away and let it go. But just one more thing. I naturally wanted to see which past designs were going to be featured in the base set this year (I probably knew this information once before but my brain is full and facts and memories leak out all the time). Like the previous two years, Topps is featuring only three past designs after featuring four the first three years of the Archives reboot. Here are the three designs for 2017: 1960, 1982, 1992. Two of those designs are all right. One is definitely not. And the one that is not is freaking...

The best of 2013, so far

I am surprised that I am doing this. I am also a little disappointed that I am doing this. I was mad at Topps. I am mad at Topps. But full credit to them. They made a base set worth buying this year. And since I am something like 20 cards away from completing Series 1, I figured I had enough to write one of those "best of the year so far" posts that I once did a lot more frequently when I was attempting to complete the set. So that's what I am doing here. But just for Topps flagship. No Heritage. No Opening Day. No whatever the hell I am ignoring from Panini. Here are my top 15 favorite cards from 2013 so far. I'm guessing a lot of them are your favorites, too. Or maybe you hate them all. I don't know. Countdown: 15 - Daniel Murphy, #300 Yeah, there was a lot of debate about who Topps gave card numbers 100, 200 and 300 to this year. I don't have much of a problem with it. Besides, with the way Murphy is walking on air, he deserves it. ...
