I took dayf up on his offer and traded my treasured 1987 Kevin Bass card for a 2001 Wendell Magee Jr. card on the Topps Million Card Giveaway site.
I didn't particularly want the Magee card. Who does? But after dayf's vitrolic harangue against one of the most idiotic public relations statements in history, regarding the Upper Deck settlement with MLB, it was the least I could do.
What's dayf going to do with a Kevin Bass card? I don't know. I'm sure it'll be interesting. I hope it doesn't involve quite as much cursing as his post last night.
Anyway, I've already made the Magee card work for me. After completing three trades on the Giveaway site, all between bloggers, I offered a number of my lame cards up for trade for anyone, just to see what happened.
Almost all of the offers are still pending and I don't have a lot of confidence in any of them, but one trade went through.
It was the Magee card. Somebody agreed to the deal.
In exchange, I got this card:
I know, I know. Calm down. I know 2004 cards get you hot.
But you don't understand. This particular 2004 card was the last card I needed to complete that year's Dodger team set. It was a card on my Nebulous 9 list. Now it's a card in my Million Card Giveaway collection.
Sweet!
The Nebulous 9 hasn't received a lot of attention lately. But recently I was able to knock another card off the nebulous list.
Jim of gcrl sent me this card. It's another one that completes a Dodger team set for me. I do like the 1997 set. Maybe I'll collect it someday. Maybe not.
But back to the Giveaway site. I'm liking this trading feature more and more. The redemption thing may be a crapshoot (but I still love it). But it's nice to see you can snap up a card you want through the trade process.
Even an '87 Kevin Bass is good for something.

Until they add a way to identify the trader, the process is fraught with, well, not danger, but some hazard.
