5,000

This is my 5,000th post on Night Owl Cards.

I've been aware that this moment was coming for months, yet I'm not prepared at all.

I've kind of run out of things to say on milestone posts. I'll always know when a milestone is near, I'm not one to forget stuff like that. But the risk of acknowledging them all is they start to lose some meaning.

Still, 5,000 is a lot, and like Nolan Ryan's 5,000-plus strikeouts, I don't know many others who have reached such a total when it comes to writing about sports cards on a blog. This is the only blog that I know that wrote as many (way more in fact). Perhaps there are others.

I've reached 5,000 because, as I've said many times before, I enjoy writing and I enjoy baseball cards. There is almost nothing to me that is more interesting or worthwhile than this. If that wasn't the case, I would've wrapped up the blog by now. In fact, I'd think you'd be a fool to throw something like this away.

I have a giveaway planned on this occasion and I plan to give away 5,000 cards from my collection.

I am going to distribute them among multiple "winners," probably 20 or so, that way I'm not blasting someone with 5,000 cards at once but still sending a healthy amount.

My plan is to distribute enough cards in each selection that everyone who wins will get some decent cards. I don't want to burden folks with a bunch of 1990 Donruss and 1991 Fleer. Consider each one an above-average Fairfield repack.

And, yes, I will be parting with some cards that may be difficult for me to see leave. But that's what this giveaway should be: true appreciation for my readers and also an excuse to dismiss some cards that I am unnecessarily holding on to that someone else can probably appreciate more.

There will be a blog post later this week announcing the giveaway and inviting readers to enter, a.k.a WIN SOME CARDS.

So look for that.

Thanks again for reading and sticking with me. I know a lot have moved on, so I'm particularly appreciative of those who are still around and commenting.

For you dedicated folks (and for me), the writing will continue ...

WOW! Congrats on 5000, Greg! What a huge milestone. 5000 posts of top-notch Night Owl content!
Congrats on that HUGE milestone. I am somewhere around half of that. I should get there in about 10 more years. LOL. Congrats again.
What a great milestone. Congratulations, sincerely.

5,000 posts would be a remarkable thing even if your posts were not consistently among the best on the 'Net...which, of course, they are!

Wow! Congrats on 5K! I've always enjoyed reading your posts, even dug into the archives to read some old ones! My favourite topic has always been Match The Song Title.

Here' to 5000 more! Cheers!

What? You're just leaving this at 5000 posts?

Where are the statistics?

What is your average word count? On average, how many cards are shown per post?

So lazy. ;)

Congratulations, Greg, on such an amazing milestone! Look forward to seeing you sometime soon.

Congrats on 5,000! I've got over 8,000 but plenty of my posts (some might even say the vast majority of my posts) aren't really even worth the digital ink they are printed on. I'll be reading for your next 5K posts as well!

Amazing! Thanks for 4999 fantastic posts. I’d like to say 5000 but there was one back in 2013, or 2014…
Really, like everyone else, that’s amazing and many congratulations on your accomplishment.
I love reading your blog and I hope you continue for another 5000.

Congratulations on #5000. That's such an amazing accomplishment. Like you stated... it's the perfect combination of enjoying cards and writing. You're an inspiration. Here's looking to the next 5,000.

By the way... thanks to your last post... I spent an hour last night listening to about 15 different versions of Mary's Prayer.

Congrats on 5,000! I had no idea how many posts I've made - I just looked and it's 4,826. Can't approach your quality (or word count) though! Here's to thousands more!

We bow in reverance to the God of Card Blogging...

I'm approaching #666 and was considering something goofy. I am the anti-collector after all...

Wow, congrats! I can't profess to have read every one of your posts since I'm a pandemic returnee to collecting, but I definitely queue your posts up in my reader for when I have time for a good read.

Congrats on 5,000 posts! You are the king of the baseball blogosphere for a reason. Looking forward to 5,000 more excellent posts!

Holy moly that's a lot of posts. Congrats. I'm somehow at 1200 after 11+ years and that feels like it's been a on of work.
Congratulations, Night Owl.

I don't post as much as I should but again, I want to thank you. You not only got me back into the hobby after more than 10 years out, but you helped me to appreciate the important things in card collecting - not the gimmicks that run rampant in the industry.

You've helped me connect with my daughter through collecting as well, and I can't thank you enough for that too.

Since I've only started reading your blog about two years ago, I'm thrilled that I have thousands of posts to read, starting from #1.
