The only card I have that someone wants

Let me clarify: the only card on the Million Card Giveaway site that anyone wants. Sorry, I couldn't fit that all in the title.

I'm almost ignoring the Million Card Giveaway site now. My days of buying Topps are over until Series 2 comes out, so there are no codes to redeem. Plus, no one is paying attention to any of the trades I'm putting out there. And I have nothing but junk in my card account, so it's not like anyone is trying to trade with me.

But there IS one card that keeps drawing offers.

It's the 1993 Ivan Rodriguez card. Judging by the response, I am gathering that Pudge is quite the popular player.

I have no desire to hang onto this card, but I rejected the first two trade offers that came my way. One was a 1992 card that didn't interest me. I don't even remember what the other one was.

Then I began to notice a pattern. All within the last week, and all from different people, I was offered the following three cards:

Jim Rice, Turn Back the Clock

Jose Canseco

Padres Leaders (Tony Gwynn and Benito Santiago)

What is the common theme in these three cards? That's right, they're all from 1988.

Now, I have no problem with 1988 cards. It was an enjoyable year for me and the set doesn't bore me as much as it does other people.

But here is the problem: I have way, way WAY too many 1988 cards. I don't need another 1988 card for the rest of my life. I have the whole set. I have another half-set of doubles. And don't get me started on how many Dodgers I have from that year.

I appreciate the effort of the prospective traders. Rice, Canseco and Gwynn-Santiago are all fine in every respect except one: They appear on a 1988 card.

So I rejected each offer. I have turned down FIVE trade offers for this card, and I don't even care if I have the card or not.

Really. Offer me a 1987 or a 1990 card. Your chances are better.

But, please, no more 1988s.

Now, before I go, a small bit of good news on the Million Card Giveaway site.

My good friend Randall saw that I had listed the 1979 Ron Cey card on my Nebulous 9 list. He had the Cey card in his Giveaway account and offered to trade it to me. I took him up on his offer.

But before I had the chance to pull the trigger on the trade, a package arrived the next day from Mariner1 of Emerald City Diamond Gems. Guess what one of the cards was?

Yep. Mr. Cey, 1979. The last Dodger card from that year that I needed for the Dodger binder.

But that doesn't mean I won't take another '79 Cey. I went ahead with the Million Card trade. So now I have two 1979 Ceys!

Well, actually three. There's one in my '79 binder, too.

Cool.

I guess the site can still be a little fun.

The new contest on the site is whoever has the most catchers by a certain date wins something. That might be one of the reasons why Pudge is popular.
I don't care about the contest part, but he's a Ranger so I'll bite. I've got a 79 bill stein I can offer (not exactly in your collecting wheelhouse, but better than an 88). I also gave an 07 Adam Lind if that's more to your liking.

I have a pudge in my topps million collection too, but have only received one offer, despite the catcher contest. I'm hoping someone will pony up something semi-good or semi-old in exchange as I'll gladly get rid of the 2005 Ivan.

I was offered a 1988 McGwire record breaker for my 1976 Cliff Johnson. Of course, I turned it down.
