He's in!

This post is for my brother, a diehard member of Red Sox Nation since he was 8 years old in 1975, which also happened to be Jim Rice's first full season in major league baseball.

Yes, Rice is going to the Hall of Fame. Yes, he deserves it. Yes, it probably should have taken him 15 tries to make the Hall. But there is no question he belongs there.

Congratulations, man. Your guy made it!

And congrats to Rickey, too. I cannot wait for July 26.

I'm surprised at Rickey's vote totals, I thought they'd be much higher. How could you not vote for Rickey?

He does not belong.

I'm on the fence about Rice, as he was slightly 1-dimentional. But if his induction helps Dawson get in next year, I'm all for it. Congrats to your bro!

I'm back from hiatus to say that Rice does not deserve election, and Blyleven does. It's a sad day for baseball.

i have nothing against rice, but i would have put dawson in before him, as well as blyleven (welcome back andy!). of course, i also thought steve garvey and dale murphy would be hofers, too.

I know about baseball cards than you and every other blogger out there, it seems. But I consider myself among the most knowledgeable about stats and baseball in general. Blyleven and Dawson yes, everybody else no. It's pretty cut & dry in my opinion.

I don't know guys, I saw both Rice and Dawson play. They were both playing when I was at the peak of my baseball watching period. From watching them both year after year during that time, they both belong, in my humble opinion.

I missed the first half of Blyleven's career so I don't have a good angle on that. I saw the second half and he didn't strike me as HOF material, but again, I don't have a good take on that.

I meant to say that I know LESS about baseball cards...

BTW I haven't decided whether to continue the 78 Topps blog or not. I have really enjoyed my time away, plus I was hospitalized last week, within a few inches of losing my life.

And, yes, Rickey's vote totals should have been higher. But anytime you have a large group of people voting on something, you're always going to have some people who are OUT THERE. In anything.

Remember, there are people who didn't vote for Cal Ripken. If that guy can't get unanimous election, then nobody can.

Yikes, Andy. Well, do whatever you have to get well. Forget the freakin' blog if that's what it takes.

Yeah it was quite a week. That was my first time ever being in an ER, an ambulance, or a hospital at all for myself. Scary shit.
