Letting the cards do the talking

Back when I started this post a half a day ago, I was in a foul, foul mood.

I had no time and I was in a state of perpetual pissed-off-ness. But I still felt the need to post, which is What I Do these days. The only problem was I was so angry that I didn't think I could write in a way that anyone would want to pay attention to what I was saying.

So, I grabbed a stack of cards that I had received in a trade -- one of many that I haven't posted -- and decided to let the cards speak for me. In order to do that, I picked an especially great stack, one from John of Old School Breaks. He always knows how to find me something shiny from an era in which I didn't collect.

I wrote a brief intro and somehow managed to get through it without mentioning the words "anarchy" or "dismemberment," and then uploaded a bunch of fancy cards without any further words.

Well, some time has passed since then, and although I still don't have time and it's not out of the realm of possibility that I will dream of dropping a nuclear bomb on someone/something, I at least can function enough to add some brief words with the great cards. They deserve at least a small amount of commentary.

So, here are the cards. They will do most of the talking. I'll jump in when I'm needed:

Youngsters who never panned out for the Dodgers.

BANG YOUR HEAD! Metal Universe will drive you mad! ... These scans don't accurately show the weirdness that is Metal. Also, Henry Blanco has a lot more tattoos now.

I never liked the silver chest protector/shin guards that Piazza wore. He looked like a stormtrooper. ... Hey, wait, maybe they WERE cool.

Ooooooooooh! Shiny! And swirly! Kevin Brown looks very out of place in front of that rainbow swirl. If you put Miley Cyrus or some other Disney character in there, that would work much better. Maybe Brown could play Mr. Grumpy on the next Disney pre-teen sitcom.

Nomos I needed! Otherwise known as NIN. (Think Nine Inch Nails but with the last "N" facing forward).

You could hurt somebody with that.

Fun, right?

OK, here is where I start talking a little more. I love the Upper Deck '70s set. I've mentioned that many times. I needed just one Dodger card to fill out the team set. Here it is. This makes me very happy. Even in my cranky state.

More Garvey greatness. This may or may not be my first Garvey jersey card. I'll have to check. I've got a few bats and autos. But at the very least it means I've completed the trifecta for Garvey! Wee!

Also, this card from Gold Label is a bit different. Here is the back:

You can see the jersey bit featured on the back, too. There's some sort of thin coating on the back keeping it in place. It's quite different and very cool.

I told you were they were great cards. I always look forward to packages from John.

Major thanks, John. I'm feeling chattier already. Maybe I'll dream of something pleasant now, rather than something explosive.
