Play ball! (2024)

If you had told me, not even 15 years ago, that I'd still be writing this post in 2024, heck that I would still be blogging in 2024, or even that there would be Opening Days to celebrate in 2024, or a semi-functioning world in 2024, I would have been pleasantly surprised.

Opening Day is still a tradition we have and for many teams it starts tomorrow. (The Dodgers and Padres got a jump on things but it wasn't their idea). And if that tradition is still going, then this tradition is still going.

Not a lot to discuss this time out, as compared with last year. A shout-out to Mike D., who in the comments on last year's post, predicted a Rangers victory and a 2023 Topps Rangers card appearance on the 2024 edition. But, sorry, no Corey Seager card. I've got to maintain at least a little creative control.

Let's get to it:

The no-World Series crowd got smaller this year!

That's something to celebrate.

Maybe by the time I stop doing this, every team will have won a World Series. Who knows, maybe there are some teams that nobody has thought up yet who will win a World Series when I'm still running this thing.

That's doubtful. You know it seems stupid to think that I'll be doing this in 2037. But that's what I said about 2024 in 2009, so we shall see.

Happy Opening Day, everybody. Nothing more to add. You know who I'll be rooting for.

Happy Opening Day. Which is uglier. The Angels uniform in that card or the card itself? Putrid.

Darn cheap Rays owners! Maybe one day they will make the list. Congrats to Texas for making it off and happy Opening Day!
Happy Opening Day Eve! I'm thinking Orioles this year but hoping my Cubbies go on a run.

We will be in Cincy for opening day weekend and looking forward to seeing Elly live,

As a kid, the excitement of opening day was almost up there with Christmas morning. Now, reading your post is usually the way I know about opening day.

Happy Opening Day! Whoever wins this year will have a great set design for next year's post!

Oh man, the Braves need to win another one just to get beyond that hideous design. And I was gonna mention how cringey it was that the Angels unis looked like that too.
I love the '83 design, but 2nd to last isn't where the O's need to be any longer.

Happy Opening Day! Excited to see my Rangers drop the World Series banner and start on their title defense!

Nice in action photo of a Tigers player we called "Johnny B" back in the day. He was actually traded to the Phillies in late spring training 1984 for two key players on our 84 champs, Willie Hernandez and Dave Bergman, both of whom have passed on as has Johnny B. Kind of scary - doesn't seem that long ago!

The Rangers had the Cards beat but gagged it away. Glad they finally got the ring.

1989 was such a memorable year. But damn... that was a long, long, long time ago.
