4,000 posts means I forget a lot of what I've done

This is my 4,000th post.

As usual with milestones like these, it's not completely accurate. I've written more than 4,000 posts on this blog. I've deleted a few. Probably not as many as you'd think. Less than 10, I'll bet. I probably should have deleted more. In fact, I know I should have.

But who has the time? I know I don't. I don't even have the time to look back on what I've written so I make sure I don't repeat myself.

I loathe repeating myself. And I've said that before. So I am now loathing what I am writing.

But anyway ...

4,000 posts.

That means many things. It means I've been doing this too long. It means I've stopped "being relevant," whatever that means. It means I don't care. It means I'm cranky and getting crankier. It means, yes it definitely means, I have a lot of cards.

It also means that I not only forget the things I've written, but the things I've done.

These are all cards that I picked up at the card show last weekend that I have already.

The Labine and the Aparacio I grabbed while completely forgetting I owned them already. The Ryan I knew I owned, but it was actually a different '75 Ryan that I thought I had. I had actually replaced the one I thought I was replacing earlier. You follow?

So these cards are now up for grabs.

So are these cards.

That is a sampling of what I'm putting together to the winner of my 4,000 posts contest.

I will assemble a package of 100 duplicates from my collection, and throw in the '54 Labine, the '67 Aparicio and the '75 Ryan.

The duplicates in the prize package will be along the lines of the nine cards above. I'm not going to fake you out like a Fairfield repack and show a pack of last year's Stadium Club and 2009 Heritage and then stuff five packs of Triple Play inside. THERE WILL BE NO TRIPLE PLAY IN THE PRIZE PACKAGE!!!!

There won't be anything from the years 1987-1993 either. And I'll try to avoid Topps base cards from the last seven years, too.

This, hopefully, will be 100 cards that a true collector can use, or at least appreciate.

That's my idea of who is reading this blog. True collectors. Dedicated collectors. People who were collecting before I started this blog and continue to collect now.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post with the number 4,000 somewhere in the comment (if you want to comment but don't want to enter just leave out the number 4,000). The contest will remain open until 2 a.m. EST Wednesday morning (11 p.m. PST).

Thanks for reading all those posts. Even the ones in which I repeat myself.

Let's see if I can get to 5,000.

I could keep reading 4,000 more of these posts. Heck of an achievement for a heck of a blogger.

That is a wonderful milestone. I would not say you are no longer relevant, you rd lead the charge to get pages made for the 75 minis, that's a huge win in my book.

Excellent job on hitting 4,000. Can't say I've read them all, But I've been with for almost 8 years!

Congrats on 4,000 posts. Can't say I've read all 4,000 I didn't follow you in your early days. I don't recall when I discovered this blog. When I did it took me about a week or so to read it regularly.

4,000?! I feel like I repeat myself in every single post and I've probably written less than half of the posts you have (yup, just checked -- I'm at 1,746). Thanks for writing, Greg. It really does brighten my day (or night) to see a new post from you on my blogroll, always has and always will.

When I was a young kid and first began collecting, the idea of having 4,000 cards was absurd, in a "that would be so cool, but never gonna happen" way. Now that I have around 50 times that many I miss the days where I knew every card I had by sight. However, I do still get that childish feeling of excitement from my collection, and that alone makes the hobby great.

4000 - you are a boss! Here's to 4000 more!

4000 doesn't even come close to the number of hours I have spent staring at white ground out the window ever since last October 26th. Yes, October 26th. And still today, and tomorrow, and the day after that, too. Baseball cards certainly helped at many points.

Not relevant? Don't care? NOT TRUE, lol. Heck, you might hit "4000" comments with this one. Congrats on the milestone!
Congratulations on 4,000 posts. That's a hell of an accomplishment. I'm incredibly excited to see many more posts to come, maybe even 4,000 more.

I kind of tired of "The Hit King" after his 4000th hit....the constant commercials; he got interviewed in every city he played/managed in, the unending self-promotion and talk about Cobb, etc. I'm confident that I'll never tire of Night Owl posts about cards!

Carlton, Clemens, Randy Johnson and Ryan. Rose and Cobb. Ichiro if we include his NPB stats. And now Night Owl. Pretty fair company.

Congratulations on joining the 4,000 club!
As a life-long Chicagoan I get it -- 4000 west. Very creative!
