The most Hall of Famers, update 16

 

I'm writing this in advance of the Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the Class of 2022. I don't know if I'll be able to watch it even though it's been pretty much ritual for the last dozen years or so.

 

If I can't, I'll catch the highlights. I've got to see what the Gil Hodges family has to say.

The star of the festivities, though, I assume will be David Ortiz, the "most current" of the induction class. He is also the most current Hall of Fame player to receive a base card in Topps' flagship set. It's the 2017 card atop this post. There hasn't been a Hall of Famer featured on his own base card in flagship for five years, excluding all those SPs Topps throws in now.

In this current state of mind, I decided to carry out what I had planned to do a year ago and figure out how many Hall of Famers have been in each of Topps' flagship sets since the 2006 set, the previous most-recent set that I had reviewed.

Obviously, this won't affect the current standings for the most Hall of Famers since not enough time has passed for these sets to accumulate a stockpile of Hall entrants. But it's interesting to see the totals dissipate as we get closer to the present.

As is tradition, I am repeating all of the sets for which I've listed Hall of Famers, along with the new ones, which will be 2007-17 at the end.

For sets 2014-17, there won't be any card images. I don't want to repeat a player pictured, which means I'll have to swap out some of the card images I've used before so I can have unique players for the rest of the sets, and I don't have time for that now.
