Penguin pivot

Needed a fun, short post for a Friday and the mail carrier delivered. I'll try to remember this when the post office eats my ESE (ebay standard envelope) order.

A couple of weeks ago I received an alert on one of my ebay searches for the Ron Cey MSA discs. Someone had put up for sale one of the final four I needed. It had been a good while since I had seen one I didn't have.

Unfortunately:

That next word after "Very" is "Scarce". Yeah, OK, buddy. There's no way I'm paying that for an unlicensed disc that looks like a bunch of others already in my collection. Just to confirm that this was a rip-off, I found someone else selling like 15 MSA discs of the same Red Barn variation for $15. There was no Ron Cey in the lot, unfortunately, but I thought about getting it anyway. Sadly, someone scooped it up while I was thinking. (The Red Barn back has two varieties, one with an address on the back and one without. But this seller doesn't mention which it is, just that it's the "ultra scarcest and the only one on ebay" 🙄).

I was sad that the rational side of my brain won out with this particular item, but I was rewarded just two days later when my MSA disc search dinged my email again!

Hey now! Another of the final four variations I needed! And with a price I can afford! That's the price I ended up paying, too, as I was the only bidder. Nobody gets the thrill of these discs and I sure do appreciate that.

That took the edge off not landing the Red Barn disc, which I'm sure is still up for bid and will be for who knows how long (please, nobody buy it).

And there's the variation that arrived today.

Here are the final three I need now:

Customized Sports Discs
Red Barn Family Restaurants
Wendy's Hamburgers

And here are all 14 that I own together:

And here are the 14 with the two smaller versions with a different head shot of the Penguin:

And, finally, what you all are waiting to see:

That's good stuff.

I sure do respect the reasonable seller that allowed me to pivot to something I needed at a much nicer price. As for the Red Barn guy, I know there are some people who vigorously argue their case for getting the max price possible. I think being considerate should be a part of doing business.

Here's to dealers who just want to get cards into the collections of collectors who will appreciate them.

That is great stuff! Glad you got the deal on it. The backs of these discs are so fun and interesting. Good luck with the final three.
Yes sir (I respect my elders) :) That are sum gurd stuff.

I had a since deceased friend that once said, there will always be cards. He said that whenever he couldn't get something he really wanted because of the price. I hope it's true with the Red Bard disc for you.

On a different note, is that a coffee table you've set the Cey discs on? It looks a lot like the one I have at my house.

I forgot to mention this. SCP Auctions in their current auction is offering some of Ron Cey's personal awards and memorabilia. Here's a link if you haven't seen them yet.

It's the dining room table, which I suppose looks similar to a coffee table.

Seeing all of those backs together is pretty amazing. Congratulations on crossing the Safelon Super Star disc off of your list. Hope a reasonably priced Red Barn pops up.
