A couple weeks ago, I noticed yet another downturn in card blogging, and I went through my blog reading list to determine how many card bloggers posted at least once a week for the previous week.
It was around 40. That seemed like an all-time low ... or at least since the early days of my blog when I'm sure there weren't even 40 card blogs.
I just checked again, and the numbers were still low, but better this time at just over 50 posting at least once a week.
I'm grateful for anyone who writes about cards at least once a week. Reading card blogs has been a daily ritual for me for more than 17 years and I would hate to move on from that. I don't know how the people who used to regularly read card blogs stopped, frankly. Don't they feel like there's a hole in their day every day?
The amount of card bloggers who write at least once a week and trade through the mail regularly is even less. Much less. But two who still do both just sent me some cards. That would be Jim of cards as I see them and Bo at Baseball Cards Come to Life! I have transacted with both of them dozens upon dozens of times through the years.
Jim recently sent an envelope of cards that only a dedicated-team-collector-who-also-blogs-about-cards could truly love.
Inserts and parallels for a player no longer with the Dodgers, baby! Everyone else has moved on from that, we true blue card bloggers still understand the need.
A really unnecessary insert celebrating a random stat but it's a Dustin May card, so give it to me. Glad to see May back out on the mound on a regular basis and doing fairly well (though he's about to be traded/sent down).
A few more team needs. I thought Johnny had sent me every Gavin Lux card under the sun, but he apparently missed two.
The envelope from Bo packed a punch, too. The bulk of it was from 1986 Topps football, which I've mentioned is lacking in my football binder. This helps and now I think 1984 Topps is the least-featured among the '80s football sets in the binder.
As a known 1975 Topps lover and a several-time-a-week-card-blogger-still, I guess I should know what to do with this RIPPED IN HALF card! (I actually don't). I'm picturing someone who "just wants Yankees on their cards" to an obsessive degree and that's disturbing. But I'll figure out something.
As one of those true blue card bloggers myself, I'll continue with this ritual, which after showing off the cards means adding them to the dedicated stacks for eventually storing in binders or boxes.
I still like doing what I do, what I've done since, hell, Upper Deck put out licensed baseball cards.

I like how the Dustin May card seems to say he has an average 4-seamer.
I'm trying to work myself into posting more again. Really I'm just at a loss. My creativity has bottomed out..
I also really enjoy reading blogs. Its sad that most of the blogs have either retired or the bloggers have gone to podcasts or youtube. I am not a fan of either of those. I would rather read then watch something. I can't even make five seconds into any hobby video without being bored. Too old school I guess.
When it comes to blogger mail days, those are rare for me. Like really rare. Nobody wants to trade anymore in the blogging world.
I have also noticed that a lot of card bloggers are limiting their posts or stopping altogether.
Perhaps they have moved on to other content creating activities such as Podcasts, or YouTube or Tik Tok or Instagram.
I myself still enjoy reading content about cards. It is part of my morning routine, like reading the morning newspaper used to be.
I enjoy listening to podcasts on my daily walks as another means to consume hobby content.
I have not embraced the other screen driven activities as much since I try and stay off screens as much as possible.
Please keep writing, you blog is my first stop in the mornings.

Am I still collecting? Of course. But the opportunities for blog posts are way way down.
And let me add my voice to the chorus that a "scratch and dent" 1975 set is an absolutely wonderful idea.
For me, cards are quite challenging when away from home, which cuts out way too much card & blog activity. Job is great though, and no job = no cards.
