A thank you for the thank you

A couple of months ago I ran a Dodgers card giveaway in hopes that collectors would both relieve me of some of my many, many dupes and also enjoy what I was sending.

There wasn't much of a response. Four or five folks. Blogging giveaways aren't what they once were. Plus there are all those deluded Yankees and Giants fans who have yet to come to grips with the one true team 😃. What I did send made somewhat of a dent, but there is so much left.

Meanwhile, the collectors who took me up on the offer were appreciative. One collector, Jeremy, even sent something back. He didn't have to. But it's nice to know that he really liked the cards. In fact, his two kids did, too, and sent a couple of drawings.

It's great seeing young Dodger fans. They're so rare around here.

The goodies in the box mostly came from Dodger Stadium giveaways, I think. Those drinking cups at the top recognize the Dodgers' World Series title, appearance in the postseason and Opening Weekend against the Tigers this season.

A few game programs from this season. I always like these, even though I have very little room dedicated to them.

Jeremy said the programs came out during jersey giveaway weekends. And the star of the package were three of those jerseys in just my size!

Not much to go on there, but what if I unfold them?

You should know whose jerseys they are now -- at least the Dodger fans will. For those who don't have those uniform numbers memorized, the identifying signature is at the bottom.

And here are the backs to end any remaining suspense.

So cool. A World title jersey of Freddie Freeman, a road jersey theme for one of my all-time favorite players, Orel Hershiser, and the topper -- Jackie Robinson!!!

My very first thought in seeing these was "I need to get to a game immediately!" I've never been someone who wears sports jerseys randomly. But they are certainly made for attending games. I am going to have to do that.

Jeremy also sent a Volpe Print of Steve Garvey. As a young teen I drooled over these in the Dodger yearbook or mail-order catalogue. I've had the Ron Cey one for years and I can't wait to slide the Garvey into a one-pocket next to Cey.

I think the best thing in the box was the note Jeremy sent thanking me for the cards and how much he has enjoyed sorting them with his boys. This is the best possible outcome of the cards I sent and it means a lot to me.

And the offer is still out there -- I've got a whole bunch of Dodgers extras ready to send. ... well, it'll take me a couple months, but yeah, where else can you get free cards that aren't 1990 and 1991 Donruss?

My second oldest boy has decided to be a dodger fan as he is growing into loving the sport. I’m usually a year or two behind on cards so his first favorite card was a Cody bellinger w/the dodgers. He was very upset when he went to the Cubs!
That was one amazing return!

I must’ve missed the first post, but I will happily take Dodger dupes off your hands. Anything I can’t use I can throw in the Halloween giveaway pile. I will separately email you.

That is awesome. There are still great people out there in this world, and the plus is he's raising kids to be the same way! Seeing this makes me happy and gives me faith in humanity. In today's climate, we need all of this that we can get.

Holy wow. Fantastic for you to get a SGA hookup 3000 miles away. Your Cey bobblehead is going in the mail today. I was shocked to discover that the game programs are in fact distributed free one per car when you park in the lot and are not in fact for sale in the stadium.

Those are nice legit looking jerseys. The ones they give out at Dbacks games look like they came from WalMart. If you ever decide to come to Dodger Spring training for games I can show you all the best card shops in the valley while you are here.

The drawings from the kids are so cute!
Even though I lived in Cali for awhile and have had ties to the Giants for pretty much every year of my life, gotta love those jerseys and the players they represent! (Don't tell any other Giants fans, but Freddie's one of my favorite players)
