Play ball! (2016)

Another twist in the Opening Day schedule has produced the rare daytime post at Night Owl Cards.

Initially, the Royals and Mets were to start off the season with a night game today. Then, two months later, MLB and ESPN added two more games to the festivities, set to go off at 1 and 4 today.

It's not quite the nonsense that we've dealt with in recent previous years. But all of the Opening Day gimmickry of the last few seasons -- games in far off lands, games two weeks before anyone else plays -- and it can be difficult to plan the traditional "Play Ball" post. But as long as you're up by noon on a Sunday, I think you'll see this.

So, here we go, before you get comfy in your baseball-viewing chair, here is the official start of the season:

Once again, there are a few of you guys who have been waiting for a World Series champion for a loooong time. I'm hoping this little exercise might be able to help you out. After all, it did its thing last year:

(Night Owl words from this time last year:

"Go Dodgers!

And if they can't win it, let's have a nice Royals-Pirates Series or something.")

You're welcome, Royals.

NOW GO WATCH BASEBALL!

I'm hoping for an Astros v. Nationals World Series just to get another new winner in there...since there's no way on this earth that the Brewers will get there.
They probably have a better chance than the Braves do, lol.

You should write a similar post with a picture of night owl and what you were doing during the year each team last won a World Series.

Astros - Brewers to confuse those who don't follow closely.

It worked last year! I think Night Owl's post was the factor turning everything in our favor.

Agree about the Braves. I liked Jeff Francouer 12 years ago but it shows how weak we are in the outfield that he made the opening day roster.

I would LOVE <3 for the Nationals to Win the World Series. Technically their franchise has never won. The Expos were the favored child during the 1994 Season but NO Series was played. For a DC Win the last time was the Original Nationals/Senators (now Twins) way back in 1924. So DC is due. It took 33 years to get Baseball BACK to DC and it has been 92 years since their WS win. So Yeah LETS GO NATS!

Thanks for the reminder that the Padres have never won the World Series and that the A's have suffered through a twenty-seven year drought.

Being a Cincinnati sports fan has it's challenges. Thanks for the Reds reminder. What a season. Seeing them on the list is a shot to the arm as we kick off this season with a win. Now come on Mets...
