Awesome night card, pt. 76

It is official: I will try to complete the entire 2009 Upper Deck O-Pee-Chee set. This card clinched it.

Someday, I will create a list of my 100 favorite night cards of all-time, and I know this card will be on the list. The base set card was already a favorite, but the black-bordered parallel is stellar. It seems to emphasize the "night life" going on in the picture, if that's even possible.

Yes, I know Dustin Pedroia's back is to the camera. But that is what is so weirdly great about last year's O-Pee-Chee set. Half of the photos made you shake your head, but then, for me at least, they made me smile.

Have I mentioned that I love quirky? That's what this set is.

For me, this is Upper Deck's last goofy hurrah. I don't even consider this year's base set, or that other thing they're trying to pawn off on us -- Signature Suckiness, or whatever it is -- an attempt at a finale. To me, if UD really disappears from baseball card-making forever, OPC will be its grand goodbye -- a real cardboard set consisting of 600 cards and many, many puzzling, wonderful moments.

I realize that I just posted on this set a few days ago, but there's nothing else out there right now that interests me. And there won't be until Topps Series 2, or maybe National Chicle. Maybe not even until A&G.

I could just save my cash for next month's card show and certain online goodies, but if you're thinking that's what I should do, you haven't figured out what makes me tick yet.

So, that's what I'm going to do: chase a year-old set that I don't have time/cash to chase. But I prefer to look at it as going back in time with a set that takes me back in time.

Bring on the awesome photos and the awesomely bad photos! Bring on the OPC!

I hope to have a want list up soon.

Wish UD had snuck in a Champs for baseball. I'm lovin' it for hockey.
