I stayed at the old Bossert Hotel, which used to house many of the Brooklyn Dodgers back in the day. My classes were in the penthouse on the roof, which is where the Dodgers celebrated their only WS victory in 1955. Down the street was a plaque that marked the former administrative home of the Brooklyn team.

Ebbets Field is long gone and it wasn't baseball season, so other than the hotel and the plaque I didn't really have anything to which a could make a pilgrimage, but I thought it would be cool to get a Brooklyn Dodgers cap while I was actually IN Brooklyn.

I couldn't find anything anywhere. What really ripped my heart out, though, is that NONE of the clerks I asked even knew who the Brooklyn Dodgers were. "What's that, a hockey team?" one perky 22-year-old asked me.

I know this wasn't a Mickey-centric comment, but it kind of addresses how life seems to be passing some of us by.Eggrockethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03543338186244288630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-13351024191971455412011-04-07T11:39:52.143-04:002011-04-07T11:39:52.143-04:00Great post... It's funny how as times change... names change too.

A bunch of us went to an A's game on Sunday and when they announced "Coco Crisp" and "Milton Bradley" we were busting up thinking... what parents were thinking when they came up with these names (I later found out that Coco is his nickname).

But... the ladies actually discussed and giggled at "Chone Figgins" more than the other two combined.

They even cheered "Cho-knee" "Cho-knee" "Cho-knee" everytime he stepped up to the plate.Fujihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00749100861086458307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-86232426934286892892011-04-07T08:59:17.393-04:002011-04-07T08:59:17.393-04:00Didn't you know, the reason there are no Micke...Didn't you know, the reason there are no Mickeys in the league is that Topps burnt the name out. They printed so many Micky Mantle cards over the years that the world choked on the name and nobody names there kid Mickey anymore.AdamEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12107347958456472504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-60083410021417456242011-04-07T08:30:33.863-04:002011-04-07T08:30:33.863-04:00I own a 1989 Orioles highlight video. That was the year that Mickey Tettleton had his breakout and made the All-Star team, and Mickey Weston made his big league debut at age 28 and got a win, a save, and a hold in his first three appearances. There's a goofy bit where they play a 1950s novelty song called "I Love Mickey" (written about Mantle, of course), and set it to video clips of Tettleton.Kevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01334533396646438555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-31318200555117369652011-04-06T23:48:44.597-04:002011-04-06T23:48:44.597-04:00At least Starlin Castro (Cubs SS) was born in the ...At least Starlin Castro (Cubs SS) was born in the 90's.SpastikMoosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13374559066158419166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-39588909848550963332011-04-06T22:28:08.625-04:002011-04-06T22:28:08.625-04:00Man, I passed that point where the last player old...Man, I passed that point where the last player older than me retired years ago, then I watched the last player born in the 50s. Then I watched the first player younger than my oldest son play, that really made me feel old. Now I'm just waiting for the first major league player born in the 90s. We may already be there.capewoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05028921297568214207noreply@blogger.com
