That is probably the reason I like 1987 Topps so much. It is the only wood border set I like and I really really hate all the other wood design sets. Heck I like 2014 design better than 62 and those stupid TV cards from 55 Bowman are so god awful.AdamEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12107347958456472504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-15562136350054650822014-10-30T12:31:48.403-04:002014-10-30T12:31:48.403-04:00If I had to pick. I do have two out of three (sorry Fleer) but only because a friend had a large starter lot and the shop near his house had the rest cheap - we completed the set in two days. Which was only surpassed by the fact that I bought the Donruss set for three bucks from my local shop before it closed several years ago.<br />Like you said, a lot of people are big fans of the wood design or the blue. They are both big "meh"'s for me. I kinda like the Donruss design the best and better than a lot of the late 80's offerings from all three companies. But I have no attachment to most any of this era since I didn't collect when they were new and they feel (and look) inferior to most of the vintage sets and newer products from the 2000s. 80's and early 90's designs are so simplistic, compared to some vintage and a lot of newer stuff (see Upper Deck). I realize a lot of it is technological, but so many of this period's designs just simply lack imagination.GCAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14713246271197550543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-5784269871935570522014-10-30T08:39:31.642-04:002014-10-30T08:39:31.642-04:00I'm with John. And, I like the "heat charts" on the backs of the cards -- the first big effort to incorporate something more than the basic numbers (or biographical information) on the back.Tony L.https://www.blogger.com/profile/01349226671097456632noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-83818849993561177092014-10-30T01:15:10.301-04:002014-10-30T01:15:10.301-04:001987 was the year I got back into collecting, but ...1987 was the year I got back into collecting, but I'm not 100% positive why. I don't think I could find cards for a few years, and in '87 I found a flea market that had dealers there. I liked how Topps listed the player's card number in the "on this date" feature. It was always trilling when I owned the card they mentioned.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13150792970138123909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-4146446780481220282014-10-29T20:18:31.518-04:002014-10-29T20:18:31.518-04:00I think it was the rookie cup.I think it was the rookie cup.night owlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11673973790245316059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-72760838826371960612014-10-29T20:09:21.345-04:002014-10-29T20:09:21.345-04:00This seems like a large upset. Not that I am here to argue, I was 12 years old in 1987 and my team had just won the world series, so you could say I am somewhat fond of that set.jacobmrleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13991748868368917576noreply@blogger.com
