Score is my favorite in a landslide. The rest are at best "meh"... but if I had to rank them, I'd go with Topps at #2, Fleer at #3, and Donruss at #4. Heck... I'd put Sportflics and Topps Big ahead of all three of those designs.

However... I gotta say... that year's Kenner cards are absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite sets from the 80's. It's*almost* worthy of being forgiven for not having the position on the front.

I really miss Score. I love the headshot on the back and the extensive write ups. But I didn't notice until now that while they didn't commit the sin of leaving off the position they actually left off the TEAM NAME.EggRockethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02595253834504194842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-58613662748318926292015-11-20T14:48:09.161-05:002015-11-20T14:48:09.161-05:00I too am glad this is back in the mix. If I took that factor out of the mix and looked back through an unbiased lens, I would probably go with Score as #1. I think Score and Topps have to be close for 1/2, and Fleer is a clear 3rd. Donruss is easily the worst to me that year. 1986 through 1989 Donruss seem interchangeable to me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-15801846454037010512015-11-20T12:57:36.622-05:002015-11-20T12:57:36.622-05:00One of my favorite features you do, glad it is bac...One of my favorite features you do, glad it is back in the mix. I agree with most of your observations and opinions on the sets. I would agree with the Topps rating as number one. I may go with Fleer over Score as second but it would be a close battle.arpsmithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15906792508761334151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-20268988092251356562015-11-20T11:37:36.782-05:002015-11-20T11:37:36.782-05:00I'd rank them in the same order. As a kid I thought the '88 Topps was too bland (aside from the All-Star cards), however twenty years later I see it as a tastefully done classic, especially compared to the eyesore period piece sets Donruss and Fleer put out.Stack22https://www.blogger.com/profile/17776094817608096430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-82548448982244895842015-11-19T23:35:52.871-05:002015-11-19T23:35:52.871-05:00Great article ...
