Nowadays, they don't just stuff every set with them, they make special online exclusives and on-demand products too! Give me the three headed rookie cards again, so I can put 'em in the back of each team where they belong.GCAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14713246271197550543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-30315628080124568962018-01-21T10:39:00.093-05:002018-01-21T10:39:00.093-05:00I miss the days when rookie cards meant something,...I miss the days when rookie cards meant something, but now I'm almost desensitized to that logo. I try to be as positive as I can about this hobby... especially in regards to Topps (my favorite card company). But this year, they took that rookie card logo to the next level. Between Topps Now, their made to order online sets, and their regular hobby and retail products, there must be 50+ Aaron Judge cards featuring that logo. Overkill is an understatement.Fujihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00749100861086458307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-82326716066978010962018-01-20T22:01:09.936-05:002018-01-20T22:01:09.936-05:00Hopefully last year was a chance to improve for th...Hopefully last year was a chance to improve for the card companies not foreshadowing of what's to come!Scribbled Inkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14172932638461414608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-25503904770910824272018-01-20T12:27:29.454-05:002018-01-20T12:27:29.454-05:00I, too, like those Rookie Debut inserts from '...I, too, like those Rookie Debut inserts from '06, and I wouldn't even mind Topps issuing a separate Debut set all together like the ones they had for a few years in the early '90s if it meant getting those repetitive base cards out of Update.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13508921644099472101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-61028332004553976222018-01-20T08:25:42.150-05:002018-01-20T08:25:42.150-05:00Aaron Judge has 25 cards carrying the RC designati...Aaron Judge has 25 cards carrying the RC designation this past year. Back in ‘52 when Topps started putting stats on the back, it was for the previous year, and I wish sets these days would honor that, especially with the rookies and the players changing teams. That, in my opinion, is what the Update set is for. Topps needs to give a player their ‘rookie’ card in the Update set of the year they debut, put a rookie debut card in the next years set, and be done with calling them a rookie. I noticed on some of the dates for debuts in the prior year that they were late in the year. This is probably due to the early release of the set. If any trades or debuts happened in August, they won't reflected until the next year. Using understand why the checklists are finalized so early.

For evidence of the last statement look at the Tigers in Series 1 last year. There was one player who was traded to the Braves, and promptly released. Another player was demoted to AAA and released during the off-season .Donhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16217827063741767040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2700049103080920994.post-70770333673079997902018-01-19T20:08:19.563-05:002018-01-19T20:08:19.563-05:00As a fan of Game Dated cards I can endorse Rookie ...As a fan of Game Dated cards I can endorse Rookie Debut cards. And you're right, tying each card in the set to the specific date when the guy made his debut makes the rookieness of everything meaningful. It may not be a Rookie™ card (a whole different debate which will never end) but celebrating someone's first cup of coffee will always be cool.Nick Vossbrinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04162939001181537887noreply@blogger.com
